Should I Drop Joe Mixon in Fantasy Football?
This week, Texans GM Nick Caserio noted that Mixon's availability for the remainder of the season has not been determined. However, Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 noted that the team hopes to have more clarity in the next three to four weeks.
While Mixon does have a path to return for the stretch run, fantasy managers should not consider stashing Mixon. He still holds an unknown timetable. In addition, even if he were to return, he would not be given a massive workload due to the significant time he has missed.
While managers in 12+ teams with IR spots should continue to monitor Mixon, managers in shallower formats or in leagues without IR spots should look to cut Mixon ahead of Week 6.

Who Should I Pickup for Fantasy Football?
Managers considering cutting Mixon should instead pivot to other IR candidates with a clearer timetable and who are expected to make a larger impact when activated. Carolina Panthers wide receiver Jalen Coker (quadripecsp) and Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson (knee) are prime examples of IR candidates who could become viable FLEX options later this season.
Both Coker and Watson are quickly approaching their respective season debuts and could emerge as every-down players in their respective offenses, given the nature of the wide receiver rooms.
When looking at potential running back targets, managers should consider high-upside stash candidates like Jaydon Blue or Kyle Monangai. Blue is now the Cowboys' No. 2 running back, with Miles Sanders (knee) on the IR. Monangai is also the No. 2 option in Chicago and is slowly carving into D'Andre Swift's role.
These waiver wire targets have a clearer path to outscore Mixon for the remainder of the campaign and will play a greater role in helping you secure your fantasy championship.
