DFS Cheat Sheet

Game of the Day

Dallas Mavericks vs New Orleans Pelicans

The Dallas Mavericks are looking to push the pace a bit more this season, while the New Orleans Pelicans will likely continue to play at one of the fastest paces in the NBA. Both teams feature quite a bit of potential offense, and this game features the highest projected total on the slate at 228 points.

Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis are the clear focal points of the offense, as they combined for 46.1% of Dallas' shot attempts and 52.8% of their points against the Washington Wizards. Doncic has been outlined move in the Cheat Sheet. Porzingis looked better as the game progressed, and he'll likely continue to get better as he returns to game form. He comes with more than enough upside to be considered for his price tag.

Tim Hardaway Jr., Jalen Brunson, and Dorian Finney-Smith are three solid options off of the bench. Hardaway comes with a great usage rating for his price tag, while Brunson has proven that he can easily exceed value in 20-25 minutes. DFS played 30+minutes in his first game this season, and he's a cheap option, who should see plenty of court time.

Delon Wright only saw 21 minutes in his first game with Dallas, but that isn't likely to be his role throughout the season. His price tag is still relatively low, but he makes a boom or bust tournament option on this slate. Max Kleber is in a similar position. He only played 24 minutes as a starter against Washington, but he's expected to play bigger minutes throughout the season. He's also strictly a GPP option for the time being.

Courtney Lee, Justin Jackson, and Seth Curry are also expected to find minutes, but they can be avoided on this nine game slate.

The New Orleans rotation is one of the most confusing in the NBA. Jrue Holiday and Brandon Ingram are the only two "safe" options. They played 41 and 35 minutes on Opening Night, respectively. Ingram flashed, while Holiday disappointed a bit. With that being said, they are both cheap enough to be considered on this slate, as they have both flashed triple-double potential.

Lonzo Ball, JJ Redick, Josh Hart, and Derrick Favors all saw more than 20 minutes on Opening Night. With that being said, they all come with quite a bit of risk. Hart is far and away the top option of the group because of his ridiculous price tag. Ball also has flashed triple-double potential, but he was benched down the stretch, making him nothing more than a GPP option.

Frank Jackson, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Kenrich Williams, Nicolo Melli, and Jahlil Okafor will all see minutes, as well, but there isn't a reason to use any of them on this large of a slate.

Fade of the Day

Jaren Jackson Jr.

Jackson is coming off of a tough opening game, scoring 17 points with only 3 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 1 steal in 30 minutes. He shot only 5-12 from the field, including 0-6 from beyond the arc. Jackson shot 7-9 from the line, as well.

He's expected to play around 30 minutes again, but his usage rating sits at only 21.6%. Jackson also struggled to rebound the ball, as he only found 3 rebounds with Jonas Valanciunas playing only 16 minutes. Jackson essentially relies heavily on scoring and blocks for fantasy points.

He only shot 35.9% from beyond the arc on 2.4 three-point attempts per game last season. In his first matchup, Jackson saw half of his shots come from beyond the arc. He won't be an efficient option, and that will hurt his fantasy value.

Jackson has struggled with fouls in the past, as well, because of his blocking potential. He comes with far too much risk and not enough upside to be considered on this slate.
