DFS Cheat Sheet

Game of the Day

Sacramento Kings at Houston Rockets

Anytime the high-powered Rockets are on the slate, they figure to be in the game of the day. With the number two pace and number three offense, the Rockets are always going to put up gaudy totals, but the Kings should see a huge bump.  Most people associate the Kings with a lot of tempo, but the fact is that the Kings are dead last in pace, which should give their players a nice bump.

Although the Kings have some individually talented players, their team has actually struggled to score this year as they are 22nd in offensive rating and scoring just 104.9 points a night.  That should take a big bump tonight against the Rockets who are 27th in three-pointers allowed, 27th in assists allowed and 25th in rebounds allowed.

With Marvin Bagley and De'Aaron Fox out the last few weeks, Buddy Hield has taken over with a 28.3% usage rate over the last 30 days. He is followed closely by Bogdan Bogdanovic at 27.3% and Nemanja Bjelica at 21.2%.  All of those players are viable against as they could see time guarded by James Harden who has a poor 108 defensive rating this year.

Another area to look at is Richaun Holmes who has had a monster month of December thus far, and should be able to take advantage of poor rebounding team. Per 36 minutes this year, Holmes is scoring just short of 40 fantasy points, and should see monster minutes against Clint Capela tonight.

Be sure to check injury news as the return of Bagley would hurt Bjelica and Holmes, while the point guard spot is a bit in flux with Cory Joseph dinged up.

On the Houston side there is not much of a reason to talk a ton about James Harden. He is a stud and if you can find the salary is viable in all formats. Perhaps the more interesting play is Russell Westbrook who is an afterthought many nights, but has over 50 fantasy points in three straight outings. The Kings are eighth in three-point defense but 11th in two-point defense, meaning Westbrook’s driving ability may be more in play tonight.

Clint Capela is also a plug and play in any cash game lineup as he has 10+ rebounds in 12 straight games. The Kings are also 26th in two-point FG% allowed and give up 4.8 blocks a night. The only other option up front is P.J. Tucker due to his massive work load of 35.8 minutes per night.  If you want to take a GPP flyer, former King Ben McLemore has made 22 three’s over the last four games, but beware, the Kings slow pace and the return of Danuel House could put a quick halt to McLemore’s recent form.

Fade of the Day

Kyle Lowry/Kawhi Leonard

The former Raptors teammates will be in very similar situations tonight. Both have been injured to start the year and both will be on the back end of road back to back tonight. Although both may play, there really is not a lot of reason to play either in fantasy tonight.

Leonard has actually been rather quiet fantasy wise of late with over 20 points just once in the last four games, he has taken a step back offensively since the return of Paul George. Lowry has actually having a great season at over 20 points per game, but the emergence of Pascal Siakam and Fred Vanvleet has given the Raptors less reason to push Lowry into big minutes. If VanVleet does miss this game it would give Lowry a little more upside, but the back to back still is worrisome.
