Please Leave Carlos Santana in the Middle of the Lineup, Terry Francona

Indians manager Terry Francona admits to contemplating using Carlos Santana in the leadoff spot reports Nick Camino on Twitter, presumably to take advantage of baseball's best walk percentage over the past two seasons rather than his two straight years of .231 batting averages.

Santana would make a strange leadoff hitter as his mix of power and patience is better suited for the middle of order spot he occupied most of last season. In a year where he struggled to do anything other than draw walks and hit 3 home runs a month (which he did every month except October, where he only manged time for one), experimenting with his batting position seems unlikely to yield positive results after last year's experiment hitting him 2nd proved dreadful. Coming in at 16th in our first baseman rankings, Slamtana brings with him reliable 20 homer, 70 runs batted in skills, but his days of hitting above .250 appear to be over.
