Reese McGuire Not Ready To Return
1 year agoBoston Red Sox catcher Reese McGuire (oblique) resumed baseball activities on July 6 after initially being slow to recover from a right-oblique strain that he suffered taking a swing on June 21 against the Minnesota Twins. Oblique injuries usually take a minimum of two to three weeks to heal, but McGuire's is taking longer. His absence led the Red Sox to sign Jorge Alfaro to a major-league deal on July 6. Whenever the 28-year-old backstop is finally ready to return, he'll rejoin Boston's roster as a backup catcher. He has minimal fantasy appeal in that role and was hitting .267 (28-for-105) with no home runs, nine doubles, 11 RBI and 11 runs scored in 116 plate appearances over 40 games played.
