2 days agoCleveland Guardians outfield prospect Chase DeLauter (foot) began performing baseball activities on Sunday. This is a great sign for the top prospect in the Cleveland system, as he was diagnosed with a broken foot earlier this season. The 22-year-old has yet to begin running, but this is a big step in the right direction. DeLauter appeared in only 16 games this season with Double-A Akron but posted an incredible .355/.417/.528 slash line in 57 games in the minor leagues in 2023. The number 21 overall prospect on MLB Pipeline should be able to return to the minor leagues later in the summer but may have to wait until next season to make his major league debut. He should remain rostered in dynasty and keeper leagues but has a slim chance of being valuable in redraft leagues.Source: Mandy Bell
2 days agoCleveland Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan (hamstring) is set to begin a minor-league rehab assignment within the next seven to 10 days. The left-handed slugger was able to take batting practice on Friday. He appears to be making solid progress from a hamstring strain he suffered in early May. The expectation is that he'll need a few minor league games before returning to the big league lineup. Fantasy managers should expect Kwan back around early June.Source: Mandy Bell
2 days agoNew Orleans Saints All-Pro pass-rusher Cameron Jordan thinks the offseason addition of former first-round defensive end Chase Young "is going to be great for our defense." "We already got Carl Granderson, who's stellar these last couple of years. I think with growth him being on the opposite side when he gets the right health, physically. He's going to be another piece we can add on," Jordan said. Young was traded from the Washington Commanders to the San Francisco 49ers on Halloween last year before signing a one-year deal with the Saints in free agency this offseason. The 2020 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year had neck surgery this offseason but is expected to be ready for the start of the 2024 season. If the 25-year-old Young can get back to his rookie-year form, the Saints pass rush could be very dangerous this year.Source: NFL.com - Christian Gonzales
2 days agoCincinnati Reds third baseman Spencer Steer (rest) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 26-year-old has struggled at the plate lately so they will give him the day off to rest. Santiago Espinal will get the start at third base, while Jeimer Candelario gets the nod at first base against right-hander Landon Knack. Fantasy managers should adjust their lineups accordingly.Source: MLB.com
2 days agoLos Angeles Dodgers catcher Will Smith (rest) is out of the starting lineup ahead of the game against the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday. Fantasy managers don't have anything to worry about as this appears to be a routine rest day for Smith. In his absence, Austin Barnes will handle behind the plate and bat ninth on Sunday. Fantasy managers should be able to find a better streaming option considering Barnes isn't known for his ability with the bat.Source: Bill Plunkett
2 days agoTyler Reddick will start sixth in Sunday's All-Star Race from North Wilkesboro Speedway. After leading 174 laps last weekend, Reddick looked to be in position to bring home the checkered flag until a late race mistake cost both him and Chris Buescher a shot at victory. Despiteread more...
2 days agoTexas Rangers outfielder Adolis Garcia (forearm) has been scratched from the starting lineup ahead of Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Angels. The 31-year-old slugger is dealing with a forearm issue after colliding with teammate Marcus Semien during Saturday's game. The team plans to have Garcia undergo an MRI to determine the severity of the issue. In the meantime, Robbie Grossman will take his place in the lineup during Sunday's game. Fantasy managers will need to check back for another update on his status.Source: Kennedi Landry
2 days agoCleveland Browns defensive end Ogbonnia Okoronkwo (pectoral) is eyeing at least 10 sacks in 2024 after recording 4.5 sacks and a career-high 12 tackles for loss in 14 games in his first season with the Browns last year before getting hurt. He joined the Browns on a three-year, $22 million maximum-value deal last year. Okoronkwo suffered a torn pectoral but didn't need surgery and said he's "100 percent ready to go." The 29-year-old won a Super Bowl ring with the Los Angeles Rams and has 109 tackles (74 solo), 14 sacks, 26 tackles for loss, 32 QB hits, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in 64 games (eight starts) in his five years in the NFL. The Rams took him in the fifth round in 2018 out of Oklahoma. He's been more productive the last two years with the Texans and Browns, combining for 9.5 sacks in 31 games (eight starts).Source: KPRC 2 Sports - Aaron Wilson
2 days agoSan Francisco Giants starting pitcher Blake Snell (groin) is nearing a return to the big-league rotation. The left-hander has been sidelined since late April due to a lingering groin issue. The good news is that Snell looked great during his most recent rehab outing on Friday. The left-hander threw five scoreless innings and struck out 10 batters. It sounds like the plan is for Snell's next start to be with the Giants. That'll likely happen at some point next week, possibly Wednesday versus the Pittsburgh Pirates.Source: John Shea
2 days agoLas Vegas Raiders tight end Michael Mayer, who is heading into his second year in the NFL, is excited to work with rookie tight end Brock Bowers, who the Raiders selected in the first round this year. Bowers fell to the Raiders at No. 13 overall. "He's fast. He's got great hands. He can block. He can do it all. I feel like we can both do it all," Mayer said. Mayer wasn't all that involved in the Raiders' offense in his rookie campaign, catching just 27 passes for 304 yards and two touchdowns in 14 games played. Given Bowers' pedigree, Mayer figures to be the No. 2 TE in 2024, even in 12 personnel, which the Raiders ran just 14.2% of the time last year. Unless Bowers misses time due to an injury in his first year in the league, Mayer is going to have a hard time standing out for fantasy managers.Source: Las Vegas Review-Journal - Vincent Bonsignore
2 days agoSan Diego Padres starting pitcher Joe Musgrove (triceps) won't be activated from the injured list ahead of Sunday's game against the Atlanta Braves. Instead, Musgrove is likely to be activated and start against the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday. The Padres were planning on bringing Musgrove back on Sunday, but a rainout on Saturday pushed back their rotation. Fantasy managers will have to wait a little longer before getting the 31-year-old back on the mound. Musgrove holds a 6.37 ERA, 1.51 WHIP, and a 36/13 K/BB ratio through eight starts this season. Hopefully some time off will help him get back on track.Source: ESPN
2 days agoHouston Texans defensive end Dylan Horton posted a video of himself on Thursday ringing the bell, signaling his last radiation treatment after being diagnosed with Stage 4 Hodgkin's lymphoma. Horton took a leave of absence from the team on Nov. 22 of last year, citing a "personal matter." He learned on Dec. 1 that he had Stage 4 Hodgkin's lymphoma. It put an end to Horton's rookie season in the NFL in 2023, but he issued a statement in March that he was in remission and was trending in a positive direction with hopes of eventually returning to play for Houston. Horton was a fourth-round pick last year out of TCU. In his 10 games played for the Texans last year before learning of his cancer diagnosis, Horton had 13 tackles (one for loss) and two QB hits.Source: ESPN.com - DJ Bien-Aime
2 days agoTexas Rangers outfielder Evan Carter (back) is returning to the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Angels. The rookie outfielder missed over a week due to a lower back issue. Luckily, it appears to be behind him and he's ready to play again. Carter has put together an up-and-down season so far in 2024. Fantasy managers who have Carter rostered can get him back in their lineups. Carter will cover left field and bat seventh against the Halos on Sunday.Source: MLB.com
2 days agoHouston Texans wide receiver Tank Dell (leg) has made a speedy recovery from a gunshot wound, and his trainer Delfonte Diamond posted videos of him running routes and performing drills at the University of Houston on Saturday. Dell suffered a flesh wound in a mass Florida shooting, with the bullet piercing the back of his leg and going through the front of his leg, according to sources. The 24-year-old looked explosive on Saturday and appears to be full go as the offseason continues on. Despite Dell looking good, Diamond said he thinks head coach DeMeco Ryans and team officials will hold Dell out for the most part this offseason until training camp at the end of July. After catching 47 passes (75 targets) for 709 yards and seven touchdowns in 11 games (eight starts) in his rookie season in 2023 before suffering a season-ending injury, Dell's fantasy arrow is firmly pointing upward.Source: KPRC 2 Sports - Aaron Wilson
2 days agoChicago Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner (hamstring) remains out of the starting lineup ahead of Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. This marks the sixth straight game that Hoerner has missed due to tightness in his hamstring. The 27-year-old is considered day-to-day, but it's a bit surprising Hoerner hasn't been placed on the injured list yet. In the meantime, Nick Madrigal will bat seventh and cover second base on Sunday.Source: Chicago Cubs

2 days agoDenny Hamlin collected a starting position of 11th after qualifying for the All-Star race at North Wilkesboro Speedway. This is the lowest starting position at North Wilkesboro of his career so far. In last year's All-Star race at NWB, Hamlin placed 13th after starting ninth, finishing as the first driver one lap down. With 13 races completed so far in the 2024 season, Hamlin has three wins, including two at short tracks, six top-10 finishes, and remains the only driver to have led laps in all Cup events. In practice, Hamlin was one of the fastest and best overall drivers. The driver of the No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota displayed top-5 speeds in almost all categories and ranked first in 25 and 30 consecutive lap averages. With great equipment, top-notch practice speeds, and his overall 2024 performance so far, Hamlin is one of the top favorites to win this year's All-Star race. Source: Driveraverages.com
2 days agoHendrick Motorsports driver Kyle Larson received a starting position of 12th for this week's All-Star race at North Wilkesboro Speedway. Larson, however, will have to drop to the rear for a driver change as substitute driver Kevin Harvick drove the No. 5 Chevrolet during practice and qualifying. In practice, Harvick was one of the slower drivers as he ranked as high as 14th in 30 consecutive lap averages, showcasing that the No. 5 car was fastest on the longer run. In last year's All-Star race at North Wilkesboro, Larson was the dominant driver leading 145 laps and winning. After 13 races completed in 2024, Larson has two wins, and six top-5 finishes, which is the most of all drivers so far and also includes Bristol, Richmond, and Martinsville. Although Larson will not have any track time with the car until the All-Star race himself and drop to the rear, he is still one to watch at NWB due to his short track success this year and dominant performance at the site last year. 2 days agoMartin Truex Jr. will start eighth in this week's All-Star race at North Wilkesboro Speedway after qualifying. This is a better starting position for the driver of the No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota compared to last year at the site, when he started 12th. In last year's race at NWB, Truex placed 14th and finished one lap down. In 13 races completed this season so far, Truex has seven top-10 finishes, the second-best average finish of all drivers (10.2), and has led in eight different Cup events. In practice, Truex was one of the fastest drivers in the longer run, ranking as high as fourth in 20, 25, and 30 consecutive lap averages. Truex placed in the top 10 at all races using the short track and road-course rules package this year so far. This makes Truex one of the top drivers in the field to consider rostering for DFS or betting as a potential favorite to place in the top five and compete for the win.Source: Driveraverages.com
2 days agoNew York Mets outfielder Starling Marte will not start on Sunday against the Marlins in Miami. It appears to just be a normal day of rest for the 35-year-old veteran. DJ Stewart is getting the start in right field for the Mets and will hit cleanup against Marlins right-hander Sixto Sanchez. Marte has stayed healthy so far this year through 183 plate appearances and is currently slashing .266/.313/.379 with four home runs, 16 RBI, eight stolen bases and 22 runs scored for the Mets. He should be back in the lineup on Monday for the series opener against the Cleveland Guardians. Stewart has some thump in his lumber with four home runs in 35 games in 2024, but he's also hitting just .203 (15-for-74) with 16 RBI, 19 walks and 19 strikeouts. He has never faced Sanchez in his career.Source: MLB.com
2 days agoNew York Mets designated hitter J.D. Martinez (illness) is out of the starting lineup on Sunday against the Miami Marlins due to flu-like symptoms. There is some kind of bug going around the team's clubhouse right now. With Martinez under the weather, Brandon Nimmo will serve as the DH and bat third, with Tyrone Taylor in left field and hitting fifth against Marlins right-hander Sixto Sanchez. Fantasy managers will need to remove Martinez from their starting lineups and check back on Monday to see if he's feeling good enough to play in the series opener in Cleveland against the Guardians. Martinez didn't make his 2024 debut for the Mets until April 26, but he's hit the ground running and is currently batting .315 (23-for-73) with two home runs and nine RBI in 21 games. The six-time All-Star is still a nice source of power in fantasy despite being 36 years old.Source: New York Post - Jon Heyman
2 days agoMinnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton will not play on Sunday against the Guardians in Cleveland. Buxton made his return from the injured list on Saturday due to right-knee inflammation and went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, but the Twins will hold him out a day later. Don't be surprised if the oft-injured 30-year-old gets frequent off days heading into next week as the Twins try to keep him on the field. With Buxton on the pine on Sunday, Willi Castro will start in center field and bat sixth against Guardians right-hander Tanner Bibee. Castro has been a nice fill-in for the Twins in the early going this year and is currently batting .260/.320/.422 with three home runs, 14 RBI, six stolen bases and 20 runs scored on the year. He's gone 16-for-59 (.271) with three doubles, two triples and a homer in 16 games in May.Source: MLB.com
2 days agoWashington Nationals second baseman Luis Garcia Jr. (heel) is back in action on Sunday against the Philadelphia Phillies and right-hander Aaron Nola, serving as the designated hitter and batting cleanup. Ildemaro Vargas is at second base and will hit in the two-hole for the Nats. A right-heel forced Garcia out of the lineup the last two days, but he will return on Sunday. It's unclear when the 24-year-old will be feeling good enough to return to defensive duties at the keystone. Garcia has plenty of experience in his career against Nola and is batting .250 against him in 24 at-bats with three RBI and a .655 OPS. He's having a very solid season so far at the plate but has cooled off a bit in May, going 11-for-42 (.262) with two home runs, nine RBI and two stolen bases in 12 games played. It's also not the best matchup for Garcia coming off a minor injury.Source: Washington Nationals

2 days agoBaltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman is not in the team's starting lineup on Sunday against the visiting Seattle Mariners. James McCann will do the catching for right-hander Corbin Burnes and will hit ninth against Mariners right-hander George Kirby. Rutschman is hitting .283 (17-for-60) with five home runs and 10 RBI in 14 games so far in the month of May and is hitting over .300 on the year with nine long balls, 28 RBI and 26 runs scored in 178 total at-bats. Rutschman is one of the best offensive-minded catchers in the game in one of the stronger lineups in baseball. McCann is hitting .215 (14-for-65) with a homer and seven RBI on the year as the backup and has never faced Burnes in his career.Source: MLB.com
