3 days agoChicago White Sox starting pitching prospect Ky Bush has been off to an electric start to the 2024 season. The former second-round pick is sporting a 1.27 ERA and 1.22 WHIP across 21 ⅓ innings at Double-A. He has struck out 26 batters. In addition, Bush has not allowed a run in his past 11 innings. It looks like the southpaw has begun to figure things out, as he posted a hefty 6.38 ERA and 1.58 WHIP in 67 ⅔ innings at Double-A last season. The 18th-ranked prospect in the Chicago system is not expected to make his major league debut until 2025. However, he could become a name to monitor in dynasty leagues due to his elite strikeout potential, especially if he can reach Triple-A later in the summer.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: MiLB.com

3 days agoSan Francisco Giants left-hander Blake Snell (groin) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Wednesday, according to the team. Snell is recovering from a Grade 2 adductor strain that put him on the injured list last week. The 31-year-old left-hander is hoping to spend the minimum 15 days on the IL, but fantasy managers should probably expect him to be out a bit longer than that, especially considering he got a late start to the 2024 season because he signed with the Giants right before the season started. Already known as a slow starter, last year's National League Cy Young winner went 0-3 with an 11.57 ERA (4.62 FIP) and 1.97 WHIP with five walks and 12 strikeouts in 11 2/3 innings in his three starts before getting hurt. Snell shouldn't be on any waiver wires, though, and could easily rebound once he's healthy given his high-end strikeout upside.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: San Francisco Chronicle - Shayna Rubin

3 days agoUpdating a previous report, Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout (knee) has a torn meniscus in his left knee that will require surgery, according to general manager Perry Minasian. The procedure, which is believed to be scheduled for Friday, isn't considered season-ending. It's a silver lining for the 11-time All-Star, who has missed significant time the last several seasons due to injuries. A source familiar with Trout's injury said a four- to six-week timetable is a best-case scenario, but a true timetable won't be established until he goes under the knife later this week. The 32-year-old three-time MVP is currently tied for the major-league lead in home runs with 10, but he's also hitting just .220 (24-for-109) with 14 RBI and six stolen bases. Fantasy managers must keep him stashed in an injured-list spot for the time being. Former first overall pick Mickey Moniak is expected to start regularly in center field for the Angels with Trout sidelined.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: ESPN.com - Alden Gonzalez
Share:
3 days agoWashington Nationals outfield prospect James Wood is currently riding a seven-game hit streak entering Tuesday. During this stretch, the 21-year-old has tallied three extra-base hits with a .467/.529/.600 stat line with two stolen bases. The number two prospect in the Washington system has been dominant during the young part of the season with an overall .330/.435/.495 line with two long balls and seven stolen bases. Wood is making quite the case for an early major league promotion and is a popular stash candidate in redraft formats. With his excellent power and speed combination, Wood should be expected to make a significant impact when he is given the call.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: MiLB.com
Share:
3 days agoDallas Mavericks guard Luka Doncic (knee) is listed as probable going into Wednesday's Game 5 matchup with the Clippers. Doncic has a sprained right knee after tweaking it in Game 4 on Sunday. However, the 25-year-old will likely suit up in a crucial Game 5 in LA. He has averaged 29.0 points, 9.8 rebounds and 8.5 assists while shooting only 38.6 percent from the field across the series' first four games.--Andrew Lennox - RotoBallerSource: Tim MacMahon
Share:
3 days agoPittsburgh Pirates shortstop Oneil Cruz (rest) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the Oakland Athletics. This appears to be a routine rest day for the left-handed slugger. Cruz is slashing .094/.121/.094 against left-handed pitchers this season, so it makes sense that they'd give him the night off against southpaw Alex Wood. It'll be Alika Williams batting ninth and playing shortstop on Tuesday.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
Share:
3 days agoNew York Knicks point guard Jalen Brunson (knee) has been upgraded from probable to available for Tuesday's Game 5 against Philadelphia. He's ready to finish off the 76ers after being on the injury report with a right knee contusion. The Knicks star has posted 86 points and 23 assists across the last two games in the series, and he should be ready for another big performance in front of the Madison Square Garden crowd on Tuesday.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBallerSource: NBA Injury Report
Share:
3 days agoPhiladelphia 76ers guard/forward Kelly Oubre Jr. (illness) will play in Game 5 against the Knicks on Tuesday. He skipped the morning shootaround due to an illness, which raised some questions regarding his availability for the contest, but the team has officially listed him as available. Oubre Jr. has shot a fantastic 46.2 percent from deep in the playoffs, but his scoring average has dropped to 12.0 points. Across 35.5 minutes of action, he's also notched 3.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.3 blocks, and 2.0 steals.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBallerSource: NBA Injury Report
Share:
3 days agoMinnesota Twins starting pitching prospect David Festa struck 10 batters across five innings on Tuesday, which set a new season-high in punchouts. He allowed just three hits, one walk, and two runs. Across 20 2/3 innings at Triple-A this season, the 24-year-old is riding a solid 2.18 ERA and 1.45 WHIP with 30 strikeouts. Last season, Festa posted a 4.39 ERA and 1.36 WHIP in 80 innings at Double-A. The fifth-ranked prospect in Minnesota is progressing quickly and has shut down Triple-A bats quite well this season compared to his struggles last year. Festa is projected to make his major-league debut later this summer and is worth watching in deeper redraft formats.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: MiLB.com
Share:
3 days agoCincinnati Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson (wrist) remains out of the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the San Diego Padres. Stephenson will miss his third straight game due to a lingering wrist issue. The assumption is that Stephenson is day-to-day and should return later this week. It'll be Luke Maile handling the catching duties versus right-hander Yu Darvish on Tuesday.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
Share:
3 days agoNew York Knicks center Mitchell Robinson (ankle) will return to the lineup for Tuesday's Game 5 against Philadelphia. The big man missed the previous game after hurting his surgically repaired left ankle. Robinson will continue to come off the bench behind Isaiah Hartenstein. He's averaged 20.0 minutes in the postseason, recording 3.7 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.3 blocks. Hartenstein is the better option for DFS managers among the Knicks bigs. He's posted 10.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks in the 2024 playoffs.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBallerSource: NBA Injury Report
Share:
3 days agoPhiladelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid (knee, migraine) has officially been cleared for action ahead of Tuesday's Game 5 against the Knicks. After being listed as questionable for the contest due to knee injury recovery, Embiid also missed the morning shootaround with a migraine. However, he's set to play as Philadelphia tries to fight off elimination on Tuesday. Embiid has racked up 35.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 5.5 assists in the series, but he has a pretty bad history in elimination games. It will be interesting to see how well he copes with the situation at Madison Square Garden.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBallerSource: NBA Injury Report
Share:
3 days agoCincinnati Reds first baseman Christian Encarnacion-Strand (wrist) remains out of the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the San Diego Padres. The 24-year-old underwent an MRI which didn't reveal any significant damage. The hope is that Encarnacion-Strand can return at some point during the week. In the meantime, Jeimer Candelario will cover first base and bat seventh versus right-hander Yu Darvish.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
Share:
3 days agoAccording to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Boston Celtics center Kristaps Porzingis (calf) is expected to miss several games due to a right soleus strain. With likely an extended absence for Porzingis, 37-year-old veteran center Al Horford should move into the Celtics starting lineup. Luke Kornet and Xavier Tillman will also see more minutes coming off the bench in Game 5 against the Miami Heat on Wednesday.--Andrew Lennox - RotoBallerSource: Adrian Wojnarowski
Share:
3 days agoDetroit Tigers starting pitcher Jack Flaherty put together a brilliant performance against the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday. The right-hander recorded a career-high 14 strikeouts over 6 2/3 scoreless innings during Tuesday's no-decision. Flaherty struck out seven straight batters to open up the contest. Sadly for Flaherty, the Tigers bullpen coughed up the lead in the ninth inning, which cost him his first victory of the season. He'll take a 4.00 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 50/5 K/BB into his next start against the Cleveland Guardians. Flaherty's strong start to the season has made him an attractive early-season waiver-wire pickup.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
Share:
3 days agoBaltimore Orioles relief pitcher Craig Kimbrel (back) is uncertain for Tuesday's game against the New York Yankees. The veteran reliever left Sunday's game due to back tightness. He is currently considered as day-to-day. Orioles' manager Brandon Hyde said he was unsure if Kimbrel would be available for Tuesday's game. The right-hander will likely throw pregame before the team decides on his availability. If he's out, Yennier Cano figures to remain the closer in Baltimore for at least one more night.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: Roch Kubatko
Share:
3 days agoLos Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout (knee) is expected to undergo surgery on his knee in the near future. This comes as a shock, considering there was no word of Trout dealing with a serious knee issue. The timetable for his return is unknown right now, but the injury isn't expected to be season-ending, so fantasy managers will need to stash him for now. There should be more details on this situation in the coming days. Fantasy managers should prepare to be without Trout for the foreseeable future. With Trout out, former first-rounder Mickey Moniak should serve as the Angels' everyday center fielder.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: AIden Gonzalez
Share:
3 days agoLos Angeles Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard (knee) won't play in Game 5 against the Mavs on Wednesday, according to NBA writer Marc Stein. Leonard has been dealing with inflammation in his right knee for a while. In Game 2, he was on the court for 35 minutes. However, he logged only 25 minutes in Game 3. There is no timetable on when the 32-year-old will return, meaning James Harden and Paul George will need to step it up for the Clippers in Game 5.--Andrew Lennox - RotoBallerSource: NBA Injury Report
Share:
3 days agoMiami Heat point guard Terry Rozier (neck) will remain absent for Game 5 against Boston on Wednesday. The former Celtic is struggling to overcome neck spasms and has already missed 10 consecutive contests. With Rozier's extended absense Tyler Herro will continue to lead the Heat's backcourt in Game 5 after posting 19 points, four rebounds and four assists in 44 minutes during Game 4 on Monday.--Andrew Lennox - RotoBallerSource: NBA Injury Report
Share:
4 days agoHouston Astros outfielder Joey Loperfido is starting in left field and is batting seventh in his major-league debut on Tuesday against the visiting Cleveland Guardians and right-hander Carlos Carrasco. Loperfido, the Astros' No. 6 prospect per MLB Pipeline, could see a decent amount of at-bats between first base and the outfield after the team optioned struggling first baseman Jose Abreu to the minors. The 24-year-old left-handed hitter was a former seventh-round pick in 2021 out of Duke and got the promotion to the majors after hitting .287 (29-for-101) with 13 home runs, 27 RBI and five steals in 25 games for Triple-A Sugar Land. Fantasy managers in deep-mixed leagues may want to hold off spending a bunch of waiver money on the youngster, but his power numbers at Sugar Land make him tempting as the Astros look to turn around their slow start in 2024.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
Share:
4 days agoMiami Heat guard/forward Jaime Jaquez Jr. (hip) will be unavailable for Game 5 on Wednesday versus the Boston Celtics due to a hip flexor strain. In Game 4, Jaquez had some tightness in his right hip and he missed the entire fourth quarter after posting nine points and two rebounds in 22 minutes on the court. With Jaquez, Jimmy Butler (knee), and Terry Rozier (neck) out, Kevin Love, Duncan Robinson, Delon Wright, Patty Mills and Haywood Highsmith will have to step up in Game 5 as the Heat are on the verge of being eliminated from the playoffs.--Andrew Lennox - RotoBallerSource: Ira Winderman
Share:
4 days agoBoston Red Sox middle infielder Vaughn Grissom (hamstring, illness) isn't coming off the 10-day injured list on Tuesday because he has the flu. Grissom was expected to be activated from the IL for the game against the visiting San Francisco Giants, but he's being delayed while under the weather. Whenever he eventually joins the Red Sox, the 23-year-old former 11th-round selection by the Atlanta Braves in 2019 should be the team's regular second baseman in Beantown. Given Grissom's power/speed abilities, fantasy managers should be looking to pick him up off the waiver wire if he's still available. In 64 major-league games with the Braves in 2022 and 2023, Grissom hit .287/.339/.407 with five home runs, 27 RBI and five stolen bases.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MassLive.com - Christopher Smith
Share:
4 days agoAlex Noren has been fantastic in his three Byron Nelson appearances, improving from 35th to 21st to 12th in his most recent showing in 2022. The putting has been most noticeable, as the Swede has gained at least 2.5 strokes on the green in each of his starts in this event. Noren has really started to find his irons of late, and he's placed 23rd or better in five events in a row since the start of March. Typically $9,500 is a steep price to pay for Noren's volatility, but all signs point to a strong showing from the 41-year-old as he takes on TPC Craig Ranch for a fourth time in his career. Fade at your own risk!--Tommy BellSource: PGA Tour

4 days agoBoston Red Sox right-hander Nick Pivetta (elbow) is expected to make a minor-league rehab start on Thursday, and barring any setbacks in that outing, the expectation is that he'll be ready to return to the Red Sox's starting rotation afterwards. Pivetta threw 50 pitches during a live batting practice session on Saturday and is expected to only need one rehab start before the Red Sox feel comfortable reinstating him from the injured list. If the 31-year-old doesn't have any setbacks on Thursday in the minors, he could make his next big-league start against the Atlanta Braves in their two-game series next week. That would be a matchup to fade Pivetta in fantasy, but the Canadian pitcher deserves to be rostered in pretty much all leagues after he started off the year with a 0.82 ERA and 0.82 WHIP with 13 K's in 11 innings in his first two starts before getting hurt.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Boston Herald - Mac Cerullo
Share:
4 days agoBoston Red Sox outfielder/designated hitter Masataka Yoshida (hand), who is out of the lineup on Tuesday against the visiting San Francisco Giants, is going for an MRI exam on his injured left hand on Wednesday. Yoshida is active on Tuesday but is unlikely to play. The 30-year-old jammed his hand in the game on Sunday against the Chicago Cubs and could miss additional time, depending on the results of his MRI. With Yoshida out on Tuesday, Tyler O'Neill is serving as the designated hitter and batting third, while Rob Refsnyder is in left field and hitting fifth against Giants right-hander Logan Webb. Yoshida, who has basically been the team's full-time DH, is hitting a decent .275 (22-for-80) but with only two home runs and 11 RBI to this point through the first month of the season.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Boston Herald - Mac Cerullo
Share:
4 days agoMackenzie Hughes has gained a remarkable 14.2 strokes with his putter over his last three events combined. His 3rd-place finish at the Valspar was a glimpse at what can happen when his reliable putter goes nuclear, and the 33-year-old just keeps pace with his irons. The Canadian finally made the cut in his third try at the AT&T Byron Nelson last year. While the approach game still needed work, the 3.6 Strokes Gained: Putting were encouraging. At $8,600 on DraftKings, Hughes will look to gain a couple of from tee-to-green and make a handful of long putts to put him in contention on Sunday, just as he was in Florida a month ago.--Tommy BellSource: PGA Tour
Share:
4 days agoNew York Mets outfielder Harrison Bader is getting the day off on Tuesday as the team takes on the visiting Chicago Cubs. Tyrone Taylor will replace him in center field and will hit sixth in the batting order against Cubs right-hander Javier Assad. Bader has cooled off in his last 26 plate appearances, going 3-for-26 with one RBI and four strikeouts in his last seven games to drop his season slash line to .265/.291/.325 in 86 plate appearances. The former third-rounder of the St. Louis Cardinals in 2015 out of Florida has just one home run on the year to go with seven RBI, five runs scored and 10 runs scored. Taylor is hitting .279 (17-for-61) with two home runs, 13 RBI and two steals on the year but will be a low-upside DFS sleeper toward the bottom of New York's batting order.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
Share:
4 days agoWinnipeg Jets forward Cole Perfetti will enter the lineup and make his NHL postseason debut on Tuesday in Game 5 against the Colorado Avalanche. He will take the roster spot of Vladislav Namestnikov who will miss the game with a fractured cheekbone suffered in Game 4 in Colorado on Saturday. "Obviously, I've wanted to play in the "Whiteout" for a while, and now I'm getting the chance to do that in a huge game," Perfetti said. "It's going to be a lot of fun and I'm just looking forward to it and I'm just going to try and enjoy it and play my game and probably just soak it all in. It's going to be fun." The 22-year-old tallied 19 goals and 38 points on 142 shots on goal across 71 games during the regular season. The Jets need a win on Tuesday to avoid elimination.--Brenton Kemp - RotoBallerSource: NHL.com
Share:
4 days agoSi Woo Kim has been turning some heads of late, and both the betting and DFS markets have taken notice. The 28-year-old has made every cut in 2024, while gaining strokes with his irons in 10 of his 11 appearances this year. Kim nearly put it all together when his putter finally heated up at THE PLAYERS just over a month ago, but since then the putter has been the only tool letting him down. The South Korean has some nice course history at TPC Craig Ranch, however, as he gained 3.5 strokes on the green in his runner-up finish last year. Kim is certainly priced as one of the most promising players in The CJ Cup Byron Nelson field, but for good reason. If his putter shows up, he could be collecting his fifth career win this weekend.--Tommy BellSource: PGA Tour

4 days agoDallas Mavericks guard/forward Tim Hardaway Jr. (ankle) is ruled out for Wednesday's Game 5 with the Clippers. The 32-year-old will miss his third consecutive contest after spraining his right ankle in Game 2 of the opening-round series. Before the ankle injury, Hardaway averaged just three points and two rebounds in the series. Dante Exum, and Josh Green will likely see more playing time in Hardaway's absence.--Andrew Lennox - RotoBallerSource: NBA Injury Report
