4 days agoOakland Athletics third baseman J.D. Davis (groin) is being considered day-to-day after suffering a right-groin strain in Sunday's win over the Washington Nationals. Davis felt tightness in his groin area in his at-bat in the fourth inning that may have been the result of an impressive catch he made on a fly ball that was hit in the top of the fourth inning. He will undergo an MRI exam on Monday, so fantasy managers shouldn't be surprised if Davis isn't in the lineup for the start of a series against the visiting St. Louis Cardinals on Monday. Tyler Nevin replaced Davis at third base on Sunday and would likely make the start on Monday if Davis is held out. Abraham Toro and Darell Hernaiz are other options for the hot corner if Davis' injury lingers and he's forced to the injured list.Source: MLB.com
4 days agoNew York Mets right-hander Kodai Senga (shoulder) is throwing out to 120 feet and will start playing catch from a mound imminently, manager Carlos Mendoza said over the weekend. Senga was recently moved to the 60-day injured list, which means he won't be eligible to come off the IL until the final week of May. The 31-year-old hurler suffered a right-shoulder strain during spring training and was forced to begin his second major-league season on the IL for the Mets. New York is playing things very safe with their ace, so fantasy managers must continue to be patient and keep him stashed in an IL spot. With Tylor Megill (shoulder) also injured, Jose Butto has been the one to benefit and has been excellent in his two spot starts for the Mets. He's now sticking in the rotation until either Senga or Megill return.Source: The Athletic - Tim Britton
4 days agoNew York Mets designated hitter J.D. Martinez (back) is scheduled to resume swinging the bat on Monday and is still a few days away, according to manager Carlos Mendoza, of getting back into a minor-league game. Martinez hasn't played since last Saturday for Low-A St. Lucie after which he started to feel back tightness. The veteran right-handed slugger received a shot in his back last Tuesday. The Mets signed the 36-year-old late in spring training, but he didn't join the club for Opening Day as he tried to get his timing down at the plate before hurting his back. He probably won't resume his minor-league rehab assignment until later this week, but if he continues to feel good this weekend, there's a possibility that Martinez could join the Mets for his team debut sometime next week.Source: The Athletic - Tim Britton
4 days agoNew York Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said right-hander Jose Butto will be sticking in the starting rotation until Kodai Senga (shoulder) or Tylor Megill (shoulder) return after his dominating performance against the Kansas City Royals over the weekend. "He's not going anywhere," Mendoza said. "He'll continue to get the ball." Through his first two starts in 2024, Butto has struck out 15 hitters and allowed just one run. Over his past seven big-league starts dating back to 2023, he has a 2.51 ERA and WHIP under 1.00 over 39 1/3 innings while fanning 43. The 26-year-old held KC to just two hits while tossing six scoreless innings on Sunday with nine K's. Needless to say, Butto is confident right now and is going to be a popular waiver-wire pickup this week.Source: The Athletic - Tim Britton
4 days agoArizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll (wrist) collided with teammate Jake McCarthy in the outfield on Sunday against the St. Louis Cardinals, and Carroll was down on the ground for a moment before getting up and jogging off. Manager Torey Lovullo said Carroll fell on his left wrist but that no X-rays were done and the outfielder would be in the lineup on Monday versus the visiting Chicago Cubs. The 23-year-old finished Sunday's game going 1-for-4 with two RBI and a stolen base and is now hitting .233 (14-for-60) with a homer, four RBI and five stolen bases in his first 15 games in 2024. The reigning National League Rookie of the Year hasn't hit his stride yet this year at the plate but should remain in all fantasy lineups this week after his injury scare on Sunday.Source: Arizona Sports - Alex Weiner
4 days agoBoston Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that outfielder Wilyer Abreu will play every game against right-handed pitchers. It's why outfielder Ceddanne Rafaela got the start at shortstop on Monday against the Cleveland Guardians. Abreu made his major-league debut last year and slashed .316/.388/.474 with an .862 OPS, two home runs, 14 RBI, three stolen bases and 10 runs scored in just 28 games played. In his first 11 contests in 2024, Abreu has gone 6-for-26 (.231) with no homers, two RBI and a steal in 29 plate appearances. The 24-year-old can be an asset for those in deep-mixed fantasy leagues now that he'll be playing regularly. He's a strong defender and will be mostly useful in leagues that count on-base percentage due to his patient approach as a hitter.Source: WEEI - Rob Bradford
4 days agoThe Chicago Cubs are reportedly calling up outfield prospect Alexander Canario from Triple-A Iowa on Monday, according to a source. The team's No. 10 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, was off to a good start in Iowa before the promotion, going 14-for-52 (.269) with two home runs and seven RBI in 61 plate appearances over his first 13 games. The 23-year-old Dominican outfielder made his major-league debut with the Cubs in 2023 and went 5-for-17 with a home run and six RBI in just six games in 2023 and will now presumably serve in a reserve outfield role for the Cubs now that he's back in the big leagues for now. The right-handed hitter has plus power but probably won't hit for a high average in the majors because of his swing-and-miss potential. Canario has played all three outfield positions but has below-average speed and is merely an average defender.Source: MLB Network - Jon Morosi
4 days agoMiami Marlins third baseman Jake Burger (oblique) is heading to the injured list on Monday with a left-oblique injury. He compared the discomfort on Sunday against the Atlanta Braves to last year when he suffered a similar injury while with the Chicago White Sox, when he missed 10 days. The Marlins will call up infielder Otto Lopez, who was claimed off waivers from the San Francisco Giants on April 4. Lopez can play shortstop, second base and third base and last appeared in the big leagues in 2022. Hopefully for fantasy managers, the 28-year-old Burger only needs to miss the minimum 10 days on the IL. In his absence, Emmanuel Rivera is likely to see most of the starts at the hot corner for the Fish. In his first 16 games of 2024, Burger had three homers and 15 RBI despite hitting just .228 (13-for-57). UPDATE: Burger officially went on the IL with a left intercostal muscle strain.Source: MLB.com - Christina De Nicola
4 days agoDetroit Tigers second base prospect Jace Jung went 2-for-5 with three RBI for Triple-A Toledo on Sunday. Jung's homer was his third in nine games. Jung is the younger brother of Josh Jung and supplies power just like his big brother. Jung's biggest issue in professional career has been plate discipline, but the power is there for the 2022 first-round pick. The Tigers went with fellow second base prospect Colt Keith to make the Opening Day roster and it is possible the Jung will have to switch positions to get promoted quicker. For now, he should be rostered in dynasty formats with managers in redraft leagues keeping a tab on him.Source: Milb.com
4 days agoBubba Wallace finished seventh in Sunday's Auto Trader EchoPark Automotive 400 at Texas Motor Speedway. While Sunday's results did not come close to matching the performance he put up a year ago at this track when he led 111 laps, it was still a solid afternoon for the eight-year Cup veteran. Between his finish, earning three points for positive place differential, leading five laps, and recording four fastest laps, the No. 23 ended the day with 43.05 DraftKings points, which was right at value on his $8,700 salary. Up next for the Cup Series is a trip to Wallace's home state of Alabama for the Geico 500 at Talladega Superspeedway. Source: Jayski.com
4 days agoBoston Red Sox shortstop prospect Marcelo Mayer went 2-for-5 with a RBI for Double-A Portland on Sunday. The Red Sox number one prospect is now 10-for-28 on the season with one home run, five RBI and two stolen bases on the young season. Mayer split last season between High-A and Double-A, but struggled with a .189 batting average in his first go-around with Portland. The good news is that this year, he has come out on fire. Mayer's defense has always been there, but it is his bat that has needed to catch up and his hot start to the season could be a sign of things to come as Mayer's body has gotten stronger since being drafted out of high school in 2001. Mayer offers plenty to be excited about in the future for dynasty managers with the potential to hit for a good average and provide 20+ homers. For now, he is only a name to keep an eye on in dynasty leagues.Source: Milb.com
4 days agoPhiladelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith has agreed to a three-year $75 million contract extension that includes $51 million in guaranteed money. The organization also picked up his fifth-year option, so he is now under contract through the 2028 NFL season. Despite playing alongside All-Pro wideout A.J. Brown, Smith has been spectacular since entering the league in 2021. The former Heisman Trophy winner has racked up 240 receptions for 3,178 yards and 19 touchdowns through his first three pro campaigns. Smith is just 25 years old, so he should be in the thick of his prime through the duration of his new contract. He remains a WR2 in fantasy football moving forward.Source: Ian Rapoport
4 days agoAfter suffering significant damage during Saturday's practice session, Kyle Busch was forced to go to a backup car for the Auto Trader EchoPark Automotive 400 at Texas Motor Speedway. Despite being in a backup vehicle and having to start 35th, Busch worked his way through the field up to a ninth-place finish. While not the result fans of the RCR star were looking for, it was still a solid weekend for the former Cup Series champion as he not only earned his third top-10 finish of the season but also won the truck race on Friday night. Busch will look to build off his success at Texas next weekend at Talladega, a track he won on last spring.Source: Jayski.com
4 days agoBoston Red Sox catcher prospect Kyle Teel went 1-for-5 with a solo home run for Double-A Portland on Sunday. The homer would be his first of the young season and he is now hitting .300 over his first 20 at-bats. Teel, 22, is one of the top catching prospects in the minor leagues with ability to be a good hitter and not just a power hitter. He also is more athletic than most backstops. There is an outside chance that Teel could get a late season promotion, but it is more likely that he will get his shot in the big leagues next season as he has yet to play in Triple-A. Regardless, Teel holds value in dynasty leagues and should be rostered as a potential star catcher down the line.Source: Milb.com
4 days agoTampa Bay Rays third base prospect Junior Caminero returned to the lineup on Sunday with a bang. After being activated from the 7-day injured list with a quad injury that kept him sidelined, Caminero did not miss a beat by going 2-for-6 with a home run and five RBI. The 20-year-old is rated a Top-5 prospect universally and many can argue that he is not in the big leagues due to service time and not performance at this point. With Brandon Lowe (oblique), Jonathan Aranda (finger) and Taylor Wells (hip) all on the injured list, Caminero might force his way up to the big leagues by continuing to perform as he has. Caminero offers good contact and power and should be rostered in all formats when he indeed does get promoted.Source: Milb.com
4 days agoKansas City Royals pitching prospect Frank Mozzicato tossed four innings in his season debut for High-A Quad Cities. The 20-year-old allowed just one hit and struck out four with no runs allowed, but surrendered three walks. Walks have been the left-hander's kryptonite early on in his career and he will need to maintain those to improve. The former first-round pick of 2021 has very good spin on his breaking ball and has worked on a changeup to add to arsenal. The talent is all there for the youngster, but he will need to limit his walks and have better command to get to the next level. Mozzicato is only a name for dynasty managers to consider at this point.Source: Milb.com
4 days agoSomeone had to win the Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 400 at Texas Motor Speedway on Sunday afternoon, and that driver was Chase Elliott, who snapped his 41-race winless streak by doing so. There were 16 cautions for 72 laps during the event along with 23 lead changes among 13 drivers, making it one of the most wild races of the season thus far. Chase is now locked into the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs because of the win, and Hendrick Motorsports has now won five of the first nine races this season. After the event, Elliott stated, "It was crazy. And I couldn't be more proud of our team." Chase is now fourth in the points standings after nine races, 32 points behind the points leader and his teammate, Kyle Larson.Source: NASCAR.com
4 days agoMiami Marlins left-hander A.J. Puk has been scratched from his scheduled start on Monday against the visiting San Francisco Giants due to an illness while Edward Cabrera (shoulder) will be activated from the injured list and will start in Puk's place on Monday. Puk's next start has been pushed back to Wednesday. It hasn't been a great start to Puk's season after winning a rotation job coming out of spring training as he sports a 5.91 ERA through three starts and just 10 2/3 innings of work. More concerning is his eye-popping 14 walks in those 10 2/3 frames with just eight strikeouts in that time. As for Cabrera, he has also struggled with control in his Triple-A rehab as he walked 14.8% of the hitters he faced in three starts, although he was able to escape with a 0.71 ERA.Source: Jordan McPherson
4 days agoWilliam Byron's strong 2024 season continues, as the Hendrick Motorsports driver walked away from the Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 400 with a third-place finish--but it didn't come without some controversy. Byron made contact with fellow Chevy racer Ross Chastain on the final lap while battling for the runner-up position. This contact allowed Brad Keselowski to swoop by for the second-place result, while Byron was credited with third. Chastain wound up 32nd. After the race, Byron stated, "I just had a big run. Ross and I race really well, and I didn't want to wreck him there, but he blocked me late, which is understood. ... I hate that that happened, but it's the last lap and I had the run so I am going to just take the run. I didn't expect it, but I don't want to do that to a fellow Chevy guy, and we always race really well."Source: Motorsport
4 days agoToronto Blue Jays relievers Jordan Romano and Erik Swanson are both close to returning to game action, giving the club their two best relievers back and solidifying the eighth and ninth innings. Both right-handers have been sidelined by elbow issues as Romano said before Sunday's 5-0 win over the Rockies that he's feeling good after throwing 2/3 of an inning at Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday and doesn't feel that he needs a third rehab outing before returning to the club's bullpen. Swanson has pronounced himself ready for a return after pitching for Buffalo on Thursday and Saturday. Of course, Romano is a big-time asset to fantasy managers upon his return with 72 saves over the last two seasons while Swanson is valued in leagues that reward holds with 29 of those last season alongside his 2.97 ERA.Source: Ben Nicholson-Smith
4 days agoUsually it's Ross Chastain that is the one that is the aggressor late in races. Well, at the end of this weekend's Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 400 at Texas Motor Speedway, Chastain got a bit of his own medicine, as an incident with William Byron relegated Ross to a 32nd-place finish after he was poised to collect a top-three result. On the final lap of the race, Byron got a strong run on Chastain, who tried to block, resulting in the No. 24 Chevrolet turning the No. 1 Chevrolet into the outside wall. While it was a positive and strong run for Chastain and his Trackhouse Racing team, it was equally as frustrating. Ross declined to issue a comment to the media after the race.Source: On3
4 days agoKansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez suffered a left groin and hip injury on Sunday when he collided with New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte at home plate. The veteran backstop left the game and was seen limping off of the field following the collision. He will be evaluated on Monday and an update is expected before the club kicks off a series against the rival White Sox. It's been a big start to the 2024 season for the long-time Royals catcher as Perez has hit .339 with four home runs and 15 RBI across 16 games and 65 trips to the plate, posting a healthy .934 OPS in the process. The heavily-used backstop continues to deliver quality power numbers into his mid-30s and should continue to drive in plenty of runs on an improved Royals offense in 2024.Source: Joel Goldberg
4 days agoKyle Larson had the dominant race car at Texas Motor Speedway this past weekend, but you wouldn't really know by looking at the finishing order. By the end of the Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 400, Larson was credited with a 21st-place finish and earned just 26 points. This is because Larson's right rear tire fell off during an early caution period, and he was subsequently held by NASCAR for two laps as a penalty. Larson was able to rally, but he was never able to make it back to the front after all of that. "Some days are just not meant to be," Larson told Bob Pockrass after the race. He added, "Had we not had the wheel issue, we would've, you know, been up in the top two all race long."Source: FOX Sports
4 days agoDenver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic eased his way to his 68th double-double of the year in Sunday's 126-111 win over Memphis, completing the regular-season finale with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Jokic, who shot 7-for-11 from the field, also had five assists and stretched his streak with multiple steals to five games with four swipes. The two-time MVP posted a new career-high in double-doubles this year and registered 25 triple-doubles. He ended up averaging 26.4 points, 12.4 rebounds, and 9.0 assists. It's been another spectacular campaign for Jokic, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him earn MVP honors again. The big man from Serbia will now begin the title defense with the team in the 2024 playoffs as the second seed in the Western Conference.Source: ESPN
4 days agoLos Angeles Dodgers pitcher Emmet Sheehan (forearm) has been shut down from throwing again, according to manager Dave Roberts. The 24-year-old's injury isn't responding the way the team hoped it would as Roberts said it's "a longer term situation". Of course, that is grim news for the right-hander as long-term forearm issues never pan out properly for the player. Sheehan has yet to appear in a game this season after he worked to a 4.92 ERA across 13 appearances (11 starts) and 60 1/3 innings with the Dodgers last season. He struck out a solid 25.8% of the batters he faced in that time but the massive strikeout rates he put forth in the minors firmly put him on the fantasy radar in 2024. It doesn't appear he will be available to fantasy managers any time soon.Source: Fabian Ardaya
4 days agoPhoenix Suns guard Bradley Beal had an outstanding game in Sunday's regular-season finale against Minnesota, leading all scorers with 36 points in a 125-106 win. The Suns were in a must-win situation to qualify directly into the 2024 NBA Playoffs and did the business in impressive fashion with Beal leading the way. He was a red-hot 6-for-6 from three-point range and shot 14-for-21 overall while collecting six rebounds, five assists, two steals, and one block. Beal's debut year in Phoenix was a disappointment for many, but he came up huge for the Suns in the final couple of regular-season games. The three-time All-Star will now be expected to deliver in the playoffs as well. Beal has averaged 23.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.5 steals across his previous five post-season campaigns.Source: ESPN
4 days agoThe Los Angeles Dodgers and right-hander Bobby Miller (shoulder) are hopeful he can begin throwing again within the next 5-7 days. If so, he could be back relatively quickly as he wouldn't need to completely build up from scratch. The 25-year-old began his 2024 season with six shutout innings with 11 strikeouts in a win over the Cardinals but has since yielded seven earned runs with seven strikeouts and five walks across only 5 2/3 innings across his last two outings. Nonetheless, he still owns a 3.14 SIERA and a 24% K-BB% on the young season and is a must-stash in any and all formats, especially since it appears he could be back sooner than later.Source: Jack Harris
4 days agoIndiana Pacers center Myles Turner completed the 2023-24 regular season with a bang, scoring a team-high 31 points and grabbing 12 rebounds in a 157-115 victory over Atlanta. He was also in dominant form defensively, swatting away four shots. Turner missed only one of his four attempts from deep and shot 13-for-17 overall in just 22 minutes of action. This should give the Pacers big man a nice bit of momentum ahead of the playoff series against Milwaukee. The Bucks have struggled against Indiana all year, with Turner going for 19.4 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks in the matchup.Source: ESPN
4 days agoCleveland Cavaliers guard/forward Max Strus had a memorable outing in Sunday's regular-season finale against Charlotte, picking up his first career triple-double in a 120-110 loss. With Donovan Mitchell (knee) and Darius Garland (back) rested for the contest, Strus got to play the role of a playmaker and totaled a career-high 11 assists while scoring 14 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. He finished with 5-for-12 shooting, doing most of the damage with a 4-for-6 effort from three-point range. Strus has enjoyed deep playoff runs in recent years with Miami and will hope to do the same with the Cavaliers in 2024. The 28-year-old will enter the postseason after averaging 12.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.0 assists with 2.4 makes from deep during his first regular-season campaign in Cleveland.Source: ESPN
4 days agoNew Orleans Pelicans guard CJ McCollum netted a team-high 25 points on 9-for-19 shooting in Sunday's 124-108 loss to the Lakers. He hit 4-for-9 from downtown and was also among the team leaders with seven assists, completing his line with four rebounds. McCollum had a fairly inconsistent regular-season campaign, but he's heated up at a good time for the team, with the Pelicans set to begin the play-in tournament against the Lakers on Tuesday. The 32-year-old has averaged 30.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.0 assists over his last seven appearances.Source: ESPN
