3 weeks agoDon't sleep on Erik Jones in this weekend's Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 400 at Texas Motor Speedway this weekend. The Legacy Motor Club driver qualified back in 27th for this weekend's race, and although the No. 43 team wasn't able to find a ton of speed in practice orread more...
3 weeks agoChase Briscoe was one of the surprising names near the top of the speed chart during qualifying at Texas Motor Speedway on Saturday afternoon, as the Stewart-Haas Racing driver made it to the final round and will roll off the grid from fifth when the Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 400 goes green on Sunday afternoon. However, that fifth-place starting spot, paired with Briscoe's $7,700 salary on DraftKings, makes him an awful DFS pick for this weekend's race. The No. 14 Ford has an average finish of 23.29 on this track type since the start of the 2023 season, and for Briscoe's DFS salary to pay off on Sunday, he's going to need to dominate a portion of this race--an unlikely scenario. At Las Vegas earlier this season (another 1.5-mile track like Texas), Briscoe qualified sixth and ended up finishing 21st, scoring a total of just 7 DraftKings FPTS in that race. Another result like that wouldn't be surprising at all this weekend.Source: Win The Race
3 weeks agoIf you remember back to the Las Vegas race back in early March of this year, one of the pleasant surprises during that race was Carson Hocevar. He started 14th, had the 12th-best driver rating, and finished 15th when it was all said and done. The weekend, theread more...
3 weeks agoOne driver that has put up consistently good finishes at Texas Motor Speedway since the track was repaved in 2017 is Michael McDowell. He has finished between 11th and 17th over the last three races in the Lone Star State and has posted top-20 results in six ofread more...
3 weeks agoCorey Lajoie is always a popular sleeper in Fantasy NASCAR, and this weekend at Texas Motor Speedway is no different. Lajoie went out and posted the 23rd-fastest lap in practice on Saturday morning in the Lone Star State and followed that up by qualifying 23rd for this weekend's Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 400 as well. Lajoie is priced at $5,800 on DraftKings this weekend, which makes him an attractive sleeper option if you think he can pull off a top-20 finish. Remember, Lajoie was legitimately running inside the top 10 at Las Vegas (a track similar to Texas) earlier this season before he ran into issues. With that being said, Corey came home just 26th here at Texas last fall and is in a major slump right now, with zero top-20 finishes since the Atlanta race back in February.Source: Racing-Reference
3 weeks agoOver the last two races at Texas Motor Speedway, Justin Haley has walked away with third- and 13th-place finishes, but those are definitely outliers when it comes to the grand scheme of things. Attrition and good timing played a lot into those good finishes. He was also in decently-fast Kaulig Racing cars when he got those results, and this season he is piloting the lower-tier No. 51 Ford for Rick Ware Racing. Looking at the race at Las Vegas earlier this season, Justin Haley was 28th-fastest in Total Speed Ranking and finished 27th when the checkered flag flew. That's likely where he will end up in this weekend's Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 400 at Texas as well. Haley is priced at $5,300 on DraftKings this weekend and qualified 32nd, so he makes for a decent low-priced option to fill out your lineup--just keep your FPTS expectations to a minimum.Source: Driver Averages
3 weeks agoNot much has gone right for Harrison Burton and the No. 21 Wood Brothers Racing team to start out the 2024 season. Burton currently sits 34th in points with an average finish of 29.5--the worst in the series among all drivers who have started all eight races. But that doesn't mean you should avoid him like the plague in this weekend's Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 400 at Texas Motor Speedway. Burton qualified 29th for this weekend's race and comes in at a very reasonable $5,400 salary on DraftKings. In the two NextGen races at this track, he has finished 20th and 18th, so the potential is definitely there for him. Burton will likely need attrition pull off a mid-20s finish this weekend, but it's not like we haven't seen that happen at 1.5-mile tracks before. He ranks just 32nd-fastest in speed at 1.5-mile tracks since the start of 2023. Harrison is definitely a sleeper DFS pick this weekend to round out your DraftKings lineups and give you some salary cap relief and room to play with.Source: ifantasyrace
4 weeks agoChase Briscoe had easily his best run of the season at Martinsville on Sunday en route to a 10th-place finish. Teammate Ryan Preece passed him at the end because he took tires on the final caution, and Briscoe did not. However, Briscoe ranked sixth in speed, had an average running position of eighth, and easily had his best driver rating of the season. The Stewart-Haas cars have performed well on short tracks, and that has not changed in 2024, even with the introduction of the new Ford Dark Horse chassis. Although Briscoe's 2024 is on pace to be much better than his 2023 was, it remains to be seen whether SHR will have speed on the tracks where they recently struggled.Source: Racing Reference
4 weeks agoSunday's Martinsville race commemorated the 40th anniversary of Hendrick Motorsports' first win. Alex Bowman saw his teammates sweep the podium, but he enjoyed one of his best runs of the season while finishing eighth. Bowman ran in the top 10 for almost the entire race and had an average running position of eighth. He also ranked eighth in speed, his second-best speed ranking of the season behind the race at Circuit of the Americas, where he had his fastest race and best driver rating. Even though he failed to lead while his teammates all led over 60 laps, Bowman has improved in performance, which should bode well when he comes to his best tracks like Dover and Kansas later in the season.Source: Racing Reference
4 weeks agoJoey Logano had an extremely consistent run at Martinsville yesterday, both starting and finishing sixth and ranking seventh in speed. Although he outran his defending champion teammate, Ryan Blaney, for most of the race, Blaney ran better in the final stage and ended up beating Logano by a single position. Logano led most of Stage 2 after beating Kyle Larson out of the pits on the first stage break caution because he took two tires when most of the other contenders took four. Although this seemed to be the correct strategy based on how difficult passing was, few others ventured to make that call. After leading 84 laps, Logano was unable to sustain the lead and faded back to his average running position in the end.Source: Racing Reference
4 weeks agoKyle Larson won his second consecutive pole at Martinsville yesterday and led the entire first stage without being passed, but was unable to convert that into a race victory. On the stage break caution on lap 86, he took four tires while Joey Logano took two and Larson couldn't make it back to the lead despite consistently running in the top five for the remainder of the race. Although he seemed poised to finish third, Larson passed his teammate, Chase Elliott, for second on the overtime restart but had nothing for his other teammate, William Byron. Larson had the fastest average speed in the race and led the most laps in regulation before Byron overtook him in laps led on the race's penultimate lap. It was a strong run for Larson, but clearly his car was faster at the start of the race than the end.Source: Racing Reference
4 weeks agoOn Sunday afternoon, Bubba Wallace finished fourth in the Cook Out 400 at Martinsville Speedway. Sunday's race was a big day for the 23XI star as it was his first top-five finish at the famed "Paperclip." Interestingly, although he started on the front row and spent 99.3% of the race in the top 15, Wallace did not lead a single lap in Sunday's 415-lap race. Despite not leading at any point, the eight-year Cup veteran still delivered tremendous value in DFS as he scored 51.95 DraftKings points on a salary of just $7,700. Considering this was his third top-10 finish in his last four starts at Martinsville, the No. 23 will be a driver to consider when the Cup Series returns here in early November. Wallace will now look to build off of Sunday's strong finish next weekend at Texas Motor Speedway, a track he finished third and led 111 laps at last fall.Source: Jayski.com
4 weeks agoOn Sunday afternoon, Chase Elliott finished third in the Cook Out 400 at Martinsville Speedway. Sunday's race was a big day for Hendrick Motorsports as the company claimed the top three finishing positions, the first for any team at Martinsville. For the 22.74% that rostered him on DraftKings, Elliott came through in a big way as he scored 75.45 points and appeared in the winning lineup in the "NAS $400K Engineer", the company's featured contest. DFS implications aside, Sunday's performance should give fans of the second-generation star tremendous hope as this will be the same track the series runs at in the final race before the Championship Four, which should bode well for his championship dreams. Up next for the No. 9 is a trip to Texas Motor Speedway, a track he has never won at in his Cup career. Source: Jayski.com
4 weeks agoRyan Blaney began the Cook Out 400 ninth on Sunday afternoon. He was outside the Top 10 most of the race. However, the final laps saw him move all the way up to fifth place. Despite the Team Penske driver ending up with zero stage points, Blaney posted his fourth Top 5 result of the 2024 season. The No. 12 Ford now ranks fourth in points after eight races. He has been close to victory lane several times. The question now is can he conquer the Hendrick Motorsports dominance at Texas.Source: NASCAR.com
4 weeks agoRyan Preece did not have the best qualifying effort at Martinsville on Saturday. However, the Stewart-Haas Racing driver moved up 13 spots to finish ninth at the Cook Out 400. It was a great result for a car not expected to end up inside the Top 15. Preece did not come close to any stage points (14th and 19th). However, his car was good enough during the final laps to move up in the field. Tyler Reddick and even Ryan Blaney improved their position the same way. It will be interesting to see what happens in Texas next week. Source: NASCAR.com
