4 days agoThe Carolina Panthers were saying there was still room for running back Miles Sanders in the RB room after trading up in the second round of last month's NFL draft to take Jonathon Brooks as the first RB off the board. But that was before the team signed former Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny, who was with Panthers head coach Dave Canales in Seattle. Sanders lost the starting job to Chuba Hubbard last year amid the worst season of his career. It's hard to envision another team wanting to trade for Sanders and his contract, although the Panthers showed this offseason that they're willing to eat money to move on from underperforming players. The 27-year-old Sanders is now listed as third on the team's RB depth chart behind Hubbard and Brooks, making him undraftable in standard 12-team leagues this fall.Source: The Athletic - Joseph Person
4 days agoCarolina Panthers cornerback Dane Jackson will get a chance to compete for a starting spot with his new team after mostly playing as a backup and special teams ace with the Buffalo Bills. The 27-year-old will reunite with general manager Dan Morgan after Morgan famously pounded the table for the Bills to draft Jackson in the seventh round in 2020. Jackson's size (5-foot-11, 180 pounds) makes him susceptible to over-the-top throws, but he has a competitive spirit and is a good tackler. The Panthers could add another cornerback on the open market, but Jackson is going to have a much bigger role in his first year in Carolina in 2024. He has 152 combined tackles (129 solo), three interceptions, 28 passes defended, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in his four years in the NFL.Source: The Athletic - Joseph Person
4 days agoThe Jacksonville Jaguars signed free-agent defensive back Tre Flowers and linebacker Ty Summers to undisclosed deals on Thursday. In corresponding moves, the team waived linebacker Dequan Jackson after waiving undrafted free-agent receiver Wayne Ruby on Wednesday. Flowers, who was a former fifth-round pick by the Seattle Seahawks in 2018, lasted played for Jaguars defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen in Atlanta in 2023. In 90 career games (44 starts), he's had 283 tackles, 22 pass breakups, five forced fumbles and four interceptions. Flowers will give Jacksonville more depth in their secondary in 2024. Summers, 28, was taken in the seventh round in 2019 by the Packers. He was with Green Bay for three seasons before being waived. Summers has started only one game in his career.Source: Florida Times-Union - Demetrius Harvey
4 days agoSan Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw (Achilles) said he recently ditched the walking boot he'd been wearing since suffering a torn Achilles in the Super Bowl loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in early February. It's a big step for Greenlaw, but he still has a lot of boxes to check off if he wants to be ready for the Week 1 regular season opener this fall. The 26-year-old is a remarkable athlete, but expecting him to be full-go for the start of the 2024 season seems like a long shot given the severity of his injury. When healthy, the former fifth-round pick in 2019 out of Arkansas is a staple in IDP fantasy formats at the linebacker position. Greenlaw has had 100-plus combined tackles in each of the last two seasons. In 15 regular-season games for the Niners last year, he totaled 120 tackles (75 solo), a career-high 1.5 sacks, five tackles for loss and four passes defended.Source: San Francisco Chronicle - Eric Branch

4 days agoThe Chicago Cubs placed right-hander Colten Brewer (back) on the 15-day injured list on Friday with a lower-back injury and recalled right-handed pitcher Porter Hodge from Triple-A Iowa in a corresponding move. Brewer last pitched against the Pittsburgh Pirates last Sunday. In a middle-relief role for the Cubs this year, the 31-year-old has been solid for the team, posting a 3.09 ERA (3.20 FIP) and 1.11 WHIP with four walks and 12 strikeouts in 11 2/3 innings out of the bullpen. In six years in the big leagues, Brewer has a 4.78 ERA (5.06 FIP) and 1.70 WHIP with a very mediocre 20.2% strikeout rate and 12.7% walk rate. Hodge, 23, was a 13th-round pick by the Cubs in 2019 and will be making his big-league debut when he enters a game out of the Cubs' bullpen.Source: Watch Marquee - Taylor McGregor
4 days agoLerone Murphy (13-0-1) finds himself in the main event for the first time in his career and it will also be the first time fighting on American soil. He is set to face off against an always dangerous veteran, Edson Barboza. Having won 13 of his 14 professional fights, Murphy's last planned showdown with Dan Ige was canceled due to injury, and Murphy was eventually scheduled to fight Barboza. Murphy enters this fight as the favorite, as DraftKings has him at a salary of $8,500. Throughout his UFC career (six bouts), he averages 78.1 fantasy points per contest. The undefeated Murphy boasts a UFC record of 5-0-1 and is gearing up for a pivotal career moment this weekend.Source: UFC
4 days agoOakland Athletics outfielder Miguel Andujar (knee) went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI while serving as the designated hitter in his first minor-league rehab game for Triple-A Las Vegas on Thursday evening. Andujar didn't play the entire game, but it was a good first test for the 29-year-old as he attempts to return from a knee injury that has sidelined him all year to this point. Andujar was swinging the bat well in spring training with the A's before injuring his knee, so it looks like he picked up where he left off. Because of the long layoff, the A's are going to make sure he gets enough at-bats in the minors before he makes his 2024 debut. Andujar's role with the A's is to be determined, but he could at least be worth considering in AL-only leagues.Source: Milb.com
4 days agoUFC welterweights Carlston Harris (19-5) and Khaos Williams are set for a co-main event of UFC Vegas 92 on Saturday. In his prior outing, Harris defeated Jeremiah Wells last year at UFC Fight Night 226. Harris has competed five times since making his octagon debut in May 2021 and is 4-1 in the UFC. DraftKings has Harris as the underdog at a salary of $8,000. While in his UFC career, he's averaging 74.7 fantasy points per fight. Both fighters come with a background of incredible career highlights, promising an exciting bout.Source: UFC
4 days agoKhaos Williams (14-3) is set for a co-main event against Carlston Harris at UFC Vegas 92 this Saturday. Williams enters UFC Vegas 92 with three victories in his past four fights. He most recently competed last May, when he defeated Rolando Bedoya by split decision. Williams enters this fight as the favorite, as DraftKings has him at a salary of $8,200. Throughout his UFC career (seven bouts), he averages 81.3 fantasy points per contest.Source: UFC
4 days agoUFC strawweight contenders Angela Hill and Luana Pinheiro will face off on the main card of UFC Vegas 92 on Saturday. Hill (16-13) has won three of her most recent four outings, only losing to Mackenzie Dern last November. Hill enters this fight as the favorite, as DraftKings has her at a salary of $8,300. Throughout her UFC career (24 bouts), she averages 59.6 fantasy points per contest. With 24 fights, no woman has entered the cage more times for a UFC strawweight bout than Hill.Source: UFC
4 days agoThe Houston Astros are calling up left-hander Parker Mushinski from the minors before Friday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers, according to a source. Shawn Dubin threw three innings on Thursday, so he's the most likely candidate to be optioned down to the farm in a corresponding move. Mushinski, 28, will give the Astros a fresh arm out of their bullpen but is not at all on the fantasy radar. The former seventh-round pick in 2017 out of Texas Tech has allowed seven runs (five earned) on six hits while walking three and striking out two in his four relief innings in the big leagues so far this year. In his three years in the majors, Mushinski has a 5.88 ERA and 1.54 WHIP while walking 10 and striking out 25 in 26 innings out of the bullpen.Source: The Athletic - Chandler Rome

4 days agoLuana Pinheiro (11-2) and Angela Hill are scheduled to lock horns with each other on the main card of UFC Vegas 92 in a women's strawweight clash. Pinheiro opened her tenure with three consecutive wins but fell short in her biggest opportunity so far when she suffered a third-round TKO defeat to Amanda Ribas last November. DraftKings sees Pinheiro as the underdog with a salary of $7,900. Throughout her UFC career, she averages 72.2 fantasy points per contest. Source: UFC
4 days agoPittsburgh Pirates outfielder Michael Taylor will take a seat on the bench on Friday for the start of a series at Wrigley Field against the division-rival Chicago Cubs. Taylor will retreat to the bench after starting the last four games while going 2-for-13 with a double, two runs scored and five strikeouts to drop his season slash line to a weak .222/.271/.287. The 33-year-old veteran outfielder has added only one home run, eight RBI, three stolen bases and 12 runs scored for the Bucs through a month and a half of the season. Jack Suwinski is getting the start in center field and is batting sixth, while Connor Joe will be in right field while hitting cleanup against Cubs right-hander Kyle Hendricks. Both Joe and Suwinski are worth a look as DFS sleepers in the outfield on Friday against a pitcher who currently holds an 0-3 record and 10.04 ERA.Source: Pittsburgh PG - Andrew Destin
4 days agoChicago Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson (knee) is taking live batting practice against left-handers Drew Smyly (hip) and Jordan Wicks (forearm) on Friday. Swanson is ramping up his baseball activities this week after being put on the 10-day injured list last week with a right-knee injury. The 30-year-old's injury isn't believed to be all that serious, so he certainly has a chance to come off the IL when he's eligible on Saturday. The Cubs could really use him back, as middle infielder Nico Hoerner (hamstring) is missing his fourth straight game on Friday versus the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates with a left-hamstring ailment. Until one of Swanson or Hoerner can return, Miles Mastrobuoni will continue manning the 6 in Chicago. Swanson's fantasy managers will be hoping he can pick things up when he returns, as he was hitting just .209 (27-for-129) with four homers, 12 RBI and four steals before his injury.Source: CHGO Sports - Ryan Herrera
4 days agoChicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki is being rested on Friday and will start Friday's series opener against the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates on the bench. It appears to be a regular day of rest for Suzuki, who recently came back from a stint on the injured list due to an oblique injury. The 29-year-old has gone just 6-for-26 since coming back, but he was able to go deep in the team's last game on Wednesday against the Braves. Even after the rough stretch at the plate in May, the Japanese outfielder is still slashing a strong .282/.344/.482 with four home runs, 15 RBI and 16 runs scored in 85 at-bats for the Cubbies in 2024. Suzuki is a must-start in fantasy when he's in the lineup. With Suzuki out, Cody Bellinger is in right field and is batting second, while rookie Pete Crow-Armstrong will start in center field and bat eighth against Pirates rookie right-hander Paul Skenes.Source: MLB.com
4 days agoChicago Cubs middle infielder Nico Hoerner (hamstring) remains out of the starting lineup for Friday's series opener against the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates. Miles Mastrobuoni will get another start at the 6 and will hit sixth, with Nick Madrigal once again manning the keystone and hitting seventh against baseball's top prospect in right-hander Paul Skenes. Dansby Swanson (knee) is on the injured list with knee soreness, so Chicago's middle infield is thinned out at this time. The 27-year-old Hoerner is day-to-day with left-hamstring tightness but has now missed his fourth straight game. If he's unable to rejoin the Cubs' lineup this weekend, he could join Swanson on the IL. DFS gamers can probably find better options at shortstop and second base than Mastrobuoni and Madrigal, who are both light-hitting utility infielders.Source: MLB.com
4 days agoCleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell has a big decision looming this offseason and it will potentially force a couple of decisions from the Cavaliers' front office at the same time. Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN said that Mitchell knows he needs to make a decision and both he and his agent will meet with the team "at the right time." There isn't any word on when that time maybe, but he's eligible to sign an extension worth up to $209 million for four years. Reports say that if Mitchell decides to stay, then Darius Garland and his agents will request a trade and the Cavaliers will need to scramble to find the right supporting cast for Mitchell and Evan Mobley.Source: Evan Sidery
4 days agoCleveland Cavaliers forward/center Evan Mobley is entering the final year of his rookie contract next season and it looks like the team is more than happy with his growth so far. According to Brian Windhorst of ESPN, the Cavs are likely to offer Mobley a rookie scale max extension this offseason. Unfortunately, he was hit by the injury bug this past season, but still averaged 15.7 points, 9.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.4 blocks per game with shooting splits of .580/.373/.719. The 22-year-old was one of the team's best players this postseason outside of Donovan Mitchell, and their offseason seems like it could bring a shakeup to surround their core with more talent.Source: Evan Sidery
4 days agoDenver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic was the only one on the team to score more than 12 points in a 45-point drubbing in Game 6. The three-time MVP put up 22 points, nine rebounds, two assists, and three turnovers while shooting 9-for-19 from the floor and 0-for-4 from deep. Jokic will likely bounce back, as will the Nuggets, while they go back home for a series-deciding Game 7. With how this series has gone so far, there aren't any promises just because the game is on their home court. Jokic remains a must-play in DFS as he's likely to provide some big points even if he has an off game.Source: Basketball Reference
4 days agoMinnesota Timberwolves forward Jaden McDaniels cashed in an ultra-efficient performance in Game 6, which ended in a complete blowout and a Game 7 on the horizon. McDaniels has been a defensive force for this team throughout the playoffs so far and he's thrown in a few big offensive efforts for good measure. In Game 6, McDaniels posted 21 points on 8-for-10 shooting while chipping in four rebounds, one assist, one steal, and two blocks. His defensive versatility has been the biggest key to the Timberwolves' engine. McDaniels hasn't been a big offensive producer in the away games in this series, though, so he may not be the best DFS option for Game 7.Source: Basketball Reference
4 days agoToronto Raptors guard/forward Bruce Brown went from key piece on a championship team to bouncing around multiple teams in the matter of one season. His tenure in Toronto was shaky as he never established a role on the team and bounced between the starting lineup, bench, and injury report. As of right now, it seems that the Raptors are preparing to pickup Brown's option which is worth $23 million next season, and then look for a trade partner around the time of the NBA Draft. If they find a trade they deem valuable for Brown, then that could mean signing Gary Trent Jr. to an extension after that, according to Doug Smith of the Toronto Star.Source: Doug Smith
4 days agoMinnesota Timberwolves guard/forward Anthony Edwards bounced back in a big way in Game 6 to lead the team to a 45-point win and force a Game 7. The budding superstar finished the game with 27 points, four rebounds, four assists, three steals, and one turnover while shooting 8-for-17 from the floor and 4-for-9 from downtown. With the series shifting back to Denver, it's worth pointing out that he's only had one subpar game there so far in this series. In Games 1 and 2, Edwards scored 43 and 27 points respectively while shooting no worse than 58% overall.Source: Basketball Reference
4 days agoVancouver Canucks forward J.T. Miller scored a huge game-winning goal in Thursday's 3-2 victory against Edmonton, finding the back of the net with only 33 seconds left in regulation. Vancouver fell behind twice on home ice in the game, but Miller's late heroics gave the team a 3-2 series lead. It was only fitting that it came from him, as 2023-24 has been a massive year for Miller. After posting his first 100-point campaign during the regular season with 37 goals and 66 assists, Miller is tied with Brock Boeser for most playoff points on the Canucks roster. The first-year All-Star has managed 12 points (three goals, nine assists) in 11 playoff postseason appearances.Source: ESPN
4 days agoEdmonton Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl extended his postseason-opening point streak to 10 games with an assist in Thursday's Game 5 loss to the Canucks. Draisaitl and Vincent Desharnais linked up early in the game to help Evander Kane on the scoreboard. Mark Messier and Wayne Gretzky were previously the only players in Oilers history to open a postseason with a scoring streak of at least 10 games. Messier owns the franchise record with a 14-game run from 1988. Edmonton needs to stave off elimination in Game 6 on Saturday for Draisaitl to have a chance of matching the record. The German star has averaged over a point per game in the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs, recording eight goals and 13 assists across 10 outings.Source: ESPN
4 days agoVancouver Canucks winger Ilya Mikheyev missed Thursday's Game 5 against Edmonton with an undisclosed injury. Initially, he was believed to be a healthy scratch for the game, but Sportsnet's Dan Murphy has reported that the Russian winger is actually "banged up." Mikheyev has had a rough time in the 2024 postseason, going scoreless with 11 shots on goal in 10 games and carrying a minus-four rating. His lack of form has also negatively impacted Elias Pettersson, who has spent a lot of time skating with Mikheyev. Pettersson was paired with Elias Lindholm and Nils Hoglander on Thursday. He notched an assist as the Canucks moved one win away from the Conference Finals with a 3-2 victory.Source: Sportsnet
4 days agoCarolina Hurricanes center Sebastian Aho led the charge in Game 6 against the Rangers on Thursday, but his efforts weren't enough as the team got dumped out of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs with a 5-3 defeat. Aho recorded a power-play helper when Seth Jarvis scored early in the second period, and he put the Hurricanes 3-1 up in the middle of the frame. However, the Rangers roared back with four third-period goals, meaning Aho's 2024 postseason ends with 12 points (four goals, eight assists) in 11 games. He can be happy about his contributions after also enjoying a career year with 89 points (36 goals, 53 assists) in 78 games during the regular season. With him turning only 27 in the summer, Aho looks set to be a top-tier fantasy asset for years to come.Source: ESPN
4 days agoNew York Rangers forward Jack Roslovic put a stop to a four-game point drought with two assists in Thursday's 5-3 win over the Hurricanes. Both helpers came in the third period when Roslovic's linemate, Chris Kreider, scored a hat trick to help the Rangers clinch the series. Roslovic has had a good postseason riding next to Kreider and Mika Zibanejad on the first line. He has totaled seven points (two goals, five assists) in 10 games. The former Blue Jacket also features on the second power-play unit, and his two goals have come with the man advantage.Source: ESPN
