The St. Louis Cardinals have called up relief pitcher Kodi Whitley from their alternate site. With Johan Oviedo being optioned down, Whitley will take his roster spot and also likely his role as a low-to-middle leverage middle reliever. Oviedo threw 65 pitches just two days ago, so this move is likely more about getting a fresh arm in the bullpen than anything else. Whitley made his debut last year and allowed one run on two hits while striking out five in 4 2/3 innings. There's some long term upside here, but he doesn't need to be rostered in most formats for now.--David A Marcillo - RotoBaller
