Kevin Kiermaier Hits the IL With Thumb Sprain

In the midst of his healthiest season since 2015, Tampa Bay outfielder Kevin Kiermaier was placed on the 10-day IL on Sunday after jamming his thumb on a headfirst slide into first base. The news was actually considered good for Kiermaier, as an MRI revealed that the injury is just a sprain and will not require surgery. The 29-year-old veteran will be given three days of rest and treatment before being re-evaluated and Kiermaier is optimistic that he'll hopefully be back in just a few weeks.
