Desmond Ridder Officially Named The Starter
2 years agoAtlanta Falcons head coach Arthur Smith made it official on Monday that rookie quarterback Desmond Ridder will start moving forward, a decision that Smith called "performance-based." Marcus Mariota (knee) is also getting his knee checked out early in the week and is likely headed to Injured Reserve, which will end his season. It explains why the Falcons signed Logan Woodside for depth. The 23-year-old Ridder had the Week 14 bye to prepare to face the New Orleans Saints this weekend in his NFL debut on the road. It won't be easy for the third-round dual-threat QB in a hostile environment, but the Falcons understandably want to see what Ridder can do in the final four games. Ridder will have some low-end QB2 appeal in superflex leagues, but not much should be expected in the Falcons' low-scoring offense.
