Darnell Mooney 2023 Outlook: Faces Competition In Crowded Depth Chart
2 years agoChicago Bears wide receiver Darnell Mooney finds himself in an unfavorable position ahead of the 2023 season. Just one season ago, in 2021, the Tulane product took the league by storm, catching 81 passes for 1,055 yards and four touchdowns. There was optimism about his production alongside Justin Fields heading into 2022, but any remaining hype came to a halt when he averaged 3.3 catches, 41 yards, and 0.17 touchdowns per game before suffering a season-ending ankle injury. To make matters worse, the Bears have added Chase Claypool and DJ Moore via trade over the last year, leaving even less of a role for Mooney upon his return. Maybe he can carve out meaningful snaps if he has a strong camp and the Bears want to throw the ball more, but the warning signs couldn't be more clear: Mooney has plenty of risk attached to him and might not be the best investment at an ADP of 138 (WR55).
