Chris Gittens Starting At First Base For Yankees
3 years agoNew York Yankees first baseman Chris Gittens is starting at first base and hitting seventh against Boston Red Sox left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez on Friday after being called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The Yankees are missing several key players and were forced to put Luke Voit on the injured list to begin the second half of the season, so Gittens could see regular playing time at the hot corner in the short term. Gittens had just two hits (one homer and four RBI) in 21 at-bats (0.95) earlier this year with the Bronx Bombers. The right-handed hitter had an impressive .360/.520/.720 slash line with seven home runs and 22 RBI in 23 games at Triple-A, though, and he might be worth a short-term pickup for those desperate fantasy managers in AL-only leagues.
