New Jersey Devils goaltender Akira Schmid played less than 22 minutes in Wednesday's Game 1 against Carolina, with the team pulling him after Schmid gave up three goals on 11 shots. Schmid had an incredible opening to the playoffs, but his numbers were unsustainable and the young netminder took a beating Wednesday night. However, Schmid can still be very satisfied with how his first six career playoff games have gone in the NHL, with the Swiss netminder recording two shutouts and posting a 4-2 record with a 1.84 goals-against average and a .935 save percentage. Vitek Vanecek did well as Schmid's replacement in Wednesday's 5-1 loss, saving 10 of 11 shots, but he's struggled badly in the playoffs and it's likely New Jersey will keep its faith in Schmid for Friday's Game 2.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller
