Abraham Almonte Designated For Assignment By Boston
The Boston Red Sox designated outfielder Abraham Almonte for assignment on Tuesday and claimed catcher Caleb Hamilton off waivers from the Minnesota Twins in a corresponding move. Almonte played in just 15 games for the Red Sox this year, going 9-for-35 (.257) with a homer, two RBI and seven runs scored. He slashed .291/.469/.536 with a 1.006 OPS, seven home runs, 24 RBI, 30 runs scored and five stolen bases in 32 games for Triple-A Worcester. Hamilton, 27, plays infield and outfield and made his big-league debut in 2022 with the Twins. He went 1-for-18 (.056) with a home run, five runs scored, four walks and 14 strikeouts. Hamilton was a 23rd-round pick out of Oregon State back in 2016.
