PGA DFS: DraftKings Fantasy Golf Sleeper Picks and Advice for the Quicken Loans National

Jason Day recovered from heartbreak at the British Open to win the RBC Canadian Open on Sunday. Day held off a surging Bubba Watson and Canadian, David Hearn, who wanted to win the tournament for his country. Golfers now head to Gainesville, Virginia to compete in Tiger Woods’ tournament, the Quicken Loans National.

Robert Trent Jones Golf Club will be hosting the event, and it will be the first tournament on this course. The course was built on Lake Manassas and is a par 72. The slope rating plays as a 145, and the course rating plays to a 75.8. The last three years this tournament was played at the 2011 U.S. Open site, Congressional Country Club. Woods won this tournament in 2012, Bill Hass won it in 2013, and Justin Rose won it last year. All three are in the field among others such as Rickie Fowler and Jimmy Walker.

PGA DFS High-Priced DraftKings Picks ($9,000-$12,200)

Rickie Fowler  ($11,700 Vegas 17-2)

I am going to bypass the favorite Justin Rose and go for fan favorite, Fowler. Fowler didn’t really live up to expectation at the British Open two weeks ago. He finished tied for 30th, six under. This is Fowler’s breakout year, having won the Players’ Championship and the Scottish Open. He is in need of some more of the smaller tournaments like this one to pad his resume.

Danny Lee ($9,900 Vegas 35-1)

Prior to missing the cut at the Open Championship, Lee won the Greenbrier and tied for third at the John Deere Classic. Forget the statistics with Lee. He has such great poise and concentration while he plays. If he gets into his zone early, he can drill some nice shots.

 

PGA DFS Mid-Priced DraftKings Picks ($7,000-$9,000)

Will Willcox ($8,900 Vegas 50-1)

Since writing about him three weeks ago for the John Deere Classic, he has gone from a player priced at $6,400, to $8,900 currently. He finished tied for 8th at the John Deere Classic and got a runner up finish at the Barbasol Championship two weeks ago. He ranks first in sand save percentage, 5th in total driving, 3rd in ball striking, and 1st in all around ranking. Another reason to pick him, he has a great name.

Tiger Woods ($8,500 Vegas 45-1)

What has this world come to when we see Shawn Stefani priced higher than arguably greatest golfer ever? Woods blew up at St. Andrews and was never even a factor when he was cut. Woods has won this tournament twice, although those were both at Congressional. However, this is his tournament, and I have enough faith in him to fix whatever happened two weeks ago and perform quite well.

Ollie Schniederjans ($7,700 Vegas 80-1)

I threw the former number one ranked amateur in as my sleeper pick last week, and he came through big time. He shot a 9 under, tying for 22nd and scoring 91.5 fantasy points, way outperforming his $6,200 price tag. Schniederjans is on fire and must be started in every lineup this week. He is one of my new favorite golfers, and I will keep picking him until he falters.

Erik Compton ($7,000 Vegas 150-1)

I was on the Compton bandwagon until he was cut at four consecutive tournaments. He finally bounced back at the Barbasol Championship, tying for 39th. He followed that with an 11th place tie at the Canadian Open last week. I think he will continue his recent good play and could very well be in the mix.

 

PGA DFS Low-Priced DraftKings Picks ($5,100- $6,900)

Rickey Barnes ($6,100 Vegas 130-1)

I am shocked at how Barnes is priced this week by Draftkings. Barnes tied for 3rd at the Barbasol Championship (109 fantasy points) and tied for 11th at the Canadian Open last week (102.5 fantasy points). Barnes is simply on fire, and with this cheap of a price tag, you cannot go wrong. To make him even more enticing, Barnes can putt well. He ranks 13th in putting average, 9th in overall putting average, 17th in one- putt percentage, 10th in 3-putt avoidance, and 6th in putts per round, 28.15. Look for Barnes to surprise many in this tournament.

Whee Kim ($5,500 Vegas 400-1)

It’s never a good sign when you click on the player in the Draftkings tournament to view his profile and no picture shows up. He was cut last week but finished tied for 3rd at the Barbasol Championship. He is a major flier, but Kim can pay huge dividends if he has another outstanding tournament run like the Barbasol one.

 

DO NOT PICK Robert Allenby ($5,300 Vegas 500-1)

He fired his caddy last week and was cut at the past two tournaments. Hopefully there isn’t a strip club nearby.
