Week 24 Waiver Wire Pickups: Outfield

In the playoffs, every category counts. You could be dominating the major columns like batting average and ERA, but have your success undermined by saves and stolen bases. Remember, if your teams hits 30 more home runs than your opponent, it's just as valuable as winning the stolen bases category by a margin of 2-to-1. Fantasy baseball is a game of chess. It's essential to know how to pick your battles.

That's why we're here to remind you to diagnose the specific problems with your team heading into these final matchups and find some quick solutions. These four waiver wire options will each specialize in plugging a precise hole. Whether your team needs a little push in power, speed, average, or just an overall boost, these guys have got you covered.

Week 24 Outfield Targets

Curtis Granderson, New York Mets

Owned in 47% of Fleaflicker Leagues

If you're looking for a cheap source of power, don't think coal or nuclear; think Curtis Granderson. The veteran slugger just swatted his 26th homer of the year on Friday, matching his total from a season ago. A little over a month prior, nobody would have guessed that Grandy would match his resurgent 2015 power totals. Thanks to torrid production at the play as of late, the 35 year-old will content for his first 30+ HR season since 2012.

He's got 10 long balls since August 1 and six in the past 10 days. In the midst of the Mets compelling win streak (16 wins in their last 22 games), Granderson has been able to tally up the run totals as well. In the last 15 games, he's got 14 RBI and 12 runs scored. In that same span, the Grand Man is slashing a tremendous .275/.415/.750. Unless your team is getting burned in batting average, Granderson is a plus in every category and could slug your team to a championship.

Jarrod Dyson, Kansas City Royals

Owned in 18% of Fleaflicker Leagues

It comes as no surprise that Jarrod Dyson remains the premiere waiver wire talent when it comes to speed. The 23 year-old has sped up as of late, swiping six bags in the past two weeks, leading the league in that span. In the process of achieving that feat, Dyson has maintained a .341 average while crossing the plate ten times.

With Lorenzo Cain temporarily out due to a hand injury, Dyson is almost guaranteed a starting role, especially if his bat remains hot. Could five stolen bases in the next two weeks help you win your match up? If the answer is yes, then you're next set of actions should be automatic. If Dyson is unavailable in your league or you are searching for a different option, Keon Broxton has been an absolute base burglar for the Brewers. His ten steals over the past 30 days trail just Trea Turner among all MLB hitters and he's amassed four home runs (as compared to zero for Dyson) and a .384 OBP. He currently sits at just 14% ownership.

Byron Buxton, Minnesota Twins

Owned in 44% of Fleaflicker Leagues

Since being called up on September 1, there has been no hotter hitter in the league that Byron Buxton. The highly-touted rookie has finally figured it out at the Major League level, going 15-for-37 (good for a .405/.436/.919 line) with five dingers, 13 RBI and 12 runs scored. This type of stellar play has earned him the honor of being the most added player in fantasy baseball over the past two weeks, raising 35 percentage points in 15 days.

Now, you might be wondering which specific category Buxton is supposed to be highlighted for here. Well, let's focus on average. The .405 average is one of the best in the league over that span, certainly among available players. The kid knows how to hit, we know that for sure. However, Buxton doesn't fill out every category. His 11:2 K:BB ration shows that he will be striking out a lot and walking much less often for the foreseeable future. Also, he has yet to steal a base in his most recent big league stint. Still, the upside is just too good to pass up.

Kevin Kiermaier, Tampa Bay Rays

Owned in 27% of Fleaflicker Leagues

Finally, we have our baseball Renaissance man. Over the pas few weeks of play, Kevin Kiermaier has shown us that he can really do it all. Aside from being a gold glover in the outfield, Kiermaier has been lighting up every column of the box score at the dish. The numbers should speak for themselves. The Fort Wayne native has gone .389/.441/.667 over the past two weeks of play with four home runs, four stolen bases, 11 runs scored and just six strikeouts.

Just to be clear, this in not the career norm for Kevin Kiermaier! He will come back down to Earth eventually, but there's a good chance he can help secure a victory for your team before all is said and done. On this white hot streak, the third-year phenom has shown that he's got power, speed, consistency and everything else a fantasy owned wants to see from an outfielder. Whether you team is languishing across the board or dominating already, Kiermaier can help give you the edge. Well, he only has eight RBI in the span. It's the Rays, what do you expect?
