Fantasy Baseball Impact Of The Chicago Cubs Placing Infielder Nick Madrigal On The 10-Day Injured List
The Chicago Cubs have placed infielder Nick Madrigal on the 10-day injured list, according to a tweet from the team’s official X account on Tuesday. Per the tweet, the infielder was placed on the injured list to due to a right hamstring strain.
The Cubs tweeted the following:
Madrigal has appeared in 92 games for the Cubs this season, playing mostly third base (72 games) while seeing some action at second base (14 appearances).
He’s hitting a solid .263 on the year with a .311 on-base percentage, two home runs, 10 stolen bases, and an 83 wRC+ for the National League Central club.
In his place, also per the tweet, Chicago recalled fellow infielder Jared Young. Young is batting .194 with a .275 on-base percentage, a home run, and two stolen bases in 40 plate appearances in the majors so far this season. He’s found more success at the plate in the minors this season, batting .310 with a .417 on-base percentage and 21 home runs to go along with seven stolen bases in 376 plate appearances for the Cubs Triple-A affiliate.
Still, the Cubs have a reasonably crowded infield portion of the depth chart at the moment, with Dansby Swanson, Nico Hoerner, Miles Mastrobuoni, Christopher Morel, and Patrick Wisdom also on hand as options. With so many infielders, fantasy managers are probably better off looking elsewhere for streaming options across the infield at this point.
