NHL DFS Analysis and Picks for 11/16/24
It’s hard to believe we are a month into the season! The good news is that we have actionable data to analyze and identify which players to target. Let’s take a look at who stands out to me tonight.

DraftKings and FanDuel Centers - NHL DFS Picks
Jack Drury - DK $2.8K || FD $4.2K
Opponent - Ottawa Senators
If you regularly read my articles, then Drury won't come as a surprise (see: Nicolas Roy). However, like Roy, Drury isn't your typical 4th line center. He often plays over 13 minutes of ice time per game and also gets time on Carolina's second power play unit. What surprised me—and why he is listed here—is that on the road, he leads Carolina in shot attempts per 60 minutes (SF/60) with 40.91. He ranks third in expected goals per 60 minutes (XGF/60) with 4.12 and leads in high-danger chances per 60 minutes (HDCF/60) with an impressive 18.18. On any other team, he would likely be at least the 3rd line center. If you need to save some salary at center, I recommend locking in Drury tonight.

Fabian Zetterlund - (DK $4.6K || FD $5.4K)
Opponent - Pittsburgh Penguins
Much like Voronkov did last night, we're turning our attention back to the gift that is the Pittsburgh Penguins. However, the difference here is that Zetterlund is actively shooting the puck and has scored six goals this season. He ranks among the top three Sharks forwards on the road in both SF/60 (shots per 60 minutes) and SCF/60 (scoring chances for per 60 minutes). He also ranks fourth in HDCF/60 (high-danger chances per 60 minutes). It must be difficult for Sidney "The Kid" Crosby to play on a struggling team like this, particularly since he remains an elite player. The Penguins are a complete mess, especially on home ice, where they rank near the bottom of the NHL in XGA/60 (expected goals against per 60 minutes), SCA/60 (scoring chances against per 60 minutes), and, of course, my favourite, HDCA/60 (high-danger chances against per 60 minutes). This won't be the last time we see a winger playing for Pittsburgh featured in this discussion.

DraftKings and FanDuel Defensemen - NHL DFS Picks
Damon Severson - (DK $4.1K || FD $5.7K)
Opponent - Montreal Canadians
The Jackets are playing a B2B (back-to-back) game tonight in Montreal. They are a team we particularly like to target, especially when it comes to defensemen who shoot the puck. Montreal ranks second to last at home in allowing shots per game to defensemen, averaging 10.13 shots per game. Even more concerning, they are at the bottom of the league in several of my favourite defensive metrics to attack, including Expected Goals Against per 60 (XGA/60), Scoring Chances Against per 60 (SCA/60), and High Danger Chances Against per 60 (HDCA/60). Montreal allows an astonishing average of 15.62 high-danger chances per 60 minutes, reminiscent of video game stats. For those who learn visually, I've attached a graph of their defensive performance below (image courtesy of Hockeyviz). The data clearly shows that teams have no trouble getting to the front of Montreal's net.
