New York Jets running back Braelon Allen's remarkable run as the primary ball-carrier has come to an end. Allen will likely fall back into the No. 2 role -- or at least the 1B behind the 1A -- with Breece Hall (quad) expected to return from a five-game absence on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 9. To say that the 22-year-old filled in admirably would be an understatement. During his four games as the lead back, Allen totaled 93 carries, 504 rushing yards, 13 catches, 70 receiving yards, and two total touchdowns. He had 23+ touches in three of those five contests, and he ranked as the overall RB9 in half-PPR leagues throughout that five-game window. While Hall will return and significantly eat into Allen's workload, we do expect the Wisconsin product to remain involved. His recent run as the starter has shown that he's capable of producing while operating in a near-every-down capacity, and he could represent the future of the running back position in New York with Hall's name frequently coming up in trade rumors. For now, Allen is best viewed as an RB3/flex; he certainly has standalone value, but he also has a much lower floor.

Braelon Allen, 2026 Fantasy Football Outlook: His Rushing Ability Sustains His Viability As A Handcuff

Braelon Allen is primed to operate as the Jets' RB2, which is the role that Allen secured before he sustained a season-ending MCL sprain last September. Allen was averaging 4.5 attempts/19.0 rushing yards per game before his injury, and had accumulated a team-high six attempts inside the red zone during that span. Allen also captured a higher snap share than Isaiah Davis (24%/19.8%) during those matchups, which underscored his status as the preferred backup to Breece Hall. Allen has fully recovered and is positioned to re-emerge directly below Hall on New York's depth chart. That will also cement Allen as an insurance policy for Hall, whose unquestioned status as the Jets' lead back was confirmed when he signed a three-year, $43.5 million contract in May. Touches could be distributed to Hall, Allen, and Davis by offensive coordinator Frank Reich. However, the 22-year-old Allen possesses a favorable blend of size, vision, and power. That facilitates his ability to secure opportunities in short-yardage and goal-line situations. Allen would also emerge as New York's temporary lead rusher if Hall is sidelined for any reason. This makes Allen a viable handcuff option, even though Davis would siphon a percentage of targets during any absence by Hall. It also supplies the rationale for selecting Allen at his Round 14 ADP in dynasty startups (167/RB56), along with his Round 18 ADP in best ball leagues (210/RB60). Update 8/20/2026: Breece Hall is contending with a groin strain, and Allen's workload would expand if Hall remains impacted by the injury in Week 1.less...
