2013 Fantasy Football: Week 4 Thursday Night Match-up & Sit/Start Advice

It's hard to believe, but we are already at the quarter point of the NFL season. By now, you should be getting a good sense of strengths and weaknesses of your fantasy football team. If you're not performing as well as you had hoped going into the season, don't worry-- there's still plenty of time left.

Also, don't forget that this is the week that byes start, so double-check your lineups before Sunday to make sure you don't start anyone who isn't playing.  This week, Carolina and Green Bay are off.

Before we move on to Thursday night's match-up between the 49ers and the Rams, here's our suicide pool pick of the week.

Suicide Pick of the Week:

(Record 2-1, Raiders, Chiefs, Vikings)

Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice...well, that isn't going to happen. as we pick on the Cleveland Browns again this week. Last week, we thought the Minnesota Vikings were a lock to win after Cleveland began it's fire sale. Well, folks, that's why they play the games, as the Vikes lost on a last-second TD, giving us our first loss of the year. This week, however, the Bengals will avenge our loss and put a beat down on the Browns. We love Cincinnati this week.

Thursday Night Matchup:

San Francisco 49ers @ St. Louis Rams, Thursday 9/26, 8:30PM

Frank Gore takes a handoffMatchup We Love: Frank Gore, RB

Last year's Super Bowl runner-up has started the season 1-2, but facing the Rams means the team should be able to turn things around and get back to .500 .With Colin Kaepernick's recent struggles and a banged-up receiving corps, it could also mean that Niners' running back Frank Gore will get his season jump-started with a big game. San Francisco is going to lean on the run, and after watching the Rams let DeMarco Murray run all over them last week, it's hard not to like Gore this week.

Analysis: Frank Gore makes for a terrific RB2/flex play this week. Start him with confidence.

Matchup We Hate: Rams DEF

Like many experts, I liked the Rams defense coming into this year, but after watching them give up at least 24 points in each of the first three weeks, I simply can't recommend starting them unless absolutely necessary. This whole defense is designed around a young and impressive pass rush, and if they are unable to get to the QB and force turnovers, they're going to be in trouble. Last week, the Rams sacked Tony Romo once and forced zero turnovers, and they got crushed. I think it's safe to say that at this point, the Rams defense is more hype than substance.

Analysis: With the bye weeks beginning, you may have no choice but to start the Rams defense. Before you commit to doing so, check your waiver wire for a better matchup.

Key Injuries: Daryl Richardson RB, STL (questionable), Chris Givens WR, STL (probable), Patrick Willis LB, SF (doubtful), Vernon Davis TE, SF (questionable)

Start 'Em: Colin Kaepernick, Frank Gore, Anquan Boldin, 49ers DEF, Sam Bradford, Chris Givens, Isaiah Pead, Tavon Austin

Good luck on Thursday night. Don't forget to check RotoBaller.com all weekend for more matchups and sit/start advice. And as always, for advice on demand, check out the RotoBaller.com chat room.
