In preparation for the 2016-17 Fantasy Basketball season, it's time to get to know some of the new guys in the player pool.  The 2015 draft brought in a massive influx of fantasy relevant NBA talent, from a burgeoning super-star at the top of the draft (Minnesota's Karl-Anthony Towns) to a hidden jewel in the middle of the 2nd round (Miami's Josh Richardson).  While this draft doesn't have as much guaranteed talent in the lottery, it does feature its own star at the top and a depth of intriguing players who could make an impact from out of the 2nd round.

Johnson is an extremely intriguing prospect in fantasy. He has the talent to play in the NBA right now, but he's buried on the Clippers depth chart for the time being. If Blake Griffin is traded, Brice Johnson could play his way into big minutes and make a huge fantasy impact. He's more of a wait and see prospect at this point, though.

NBA Rookie Fantasy Profile: Brice Johnson

Team: Los Angeles Clippers

Draft Spot: 1.25

Analysis: The Clippers were one of the easier team to predict in this draft. They desperately needed depth in their frontcourt. Brice Johnson being selected by the Clippers was one of the most popular predictions in the draft. He fits the athletic dynamic of the Clippers team, and it was just a formality when Adam Silver read Johnson’s name.

Johnson progressed as a player in each of his four years at North Carolina, and he ended his senior season averaging 17.0 points, 10.4 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.5 blocks in only 28.0 minutes per game. He could play in the NBA immediately because of his quickness and athleticism, but the Clippers will likely limit his role, as he adds weight throughout the season. If the Clippers trade Blake Griffin, Johnson could immediately produce points, rebounds, and blocks at an elite level this season. That seems fairly unlikely, though, and Johnson is better dynasty prospect than re-draft league player.

Johnson displayed elite upside while at North Carolina. He showed that he can contribute in each of the five categories at a fairly high level for his position. He shot 61.4% from the field his senior season, and he displayed great shooting touch. As Johnson adds more weight, he’ll be able to play more in the post in the NBA, and it’s only a matter of time before he could become a full time starter. He’s a fairly low risk, high upside dynasty prospect.

Bottom Line: If given playing time, he could immediately produce points, blocks, and rebounds. Will struggle with minutes early in his career, but could earn more minutes if Blake Griffin is traded. Not worth drafting in most re-draft leagues, but worth a pick in very deep leagues and as a watch list option as a second-half waiver add.
