NBA Daily Fantasy Lineup Picks - FanDuel DFS Basketball Advice for 1/7/16

By Keith Allison [CC-BY-SA-2.0 (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0)], via Wikimedia Commons

Scott Z highlights the top NBA DFS lineup picks for 1/7/16, as well as a couple of sleepers to keep in mind while building your roster on FanDuel.

Tonight is a weird one with only two players priced above $9,000. Although that might dictate your roster a little bit, if you have extra money do not spend it just because you have it. Remember, a winning roster has nothing to do with how close you get to spending all $60,000.

In this article, I will be providing you with Daily NBA picks for FanDuel for 1/7/16. The picks will range from some of the elite players, to mid-priced options, and value plays.

Good luck and feel free to hit me up on twitter @udontknowziplow with any DFS questions

Fanduel DFS Point Guards

Darren Collison(vs LAL, $5,600)

I only like Collison at this price if Rondo does not play. Right now he's questionable, so definitely keep an eye on that. Collison has shown that when give the opportunity to run the offense he has double digit assist potential. He's done so twice in the last five games, including last night against Dallas with Rondo out.  He's also had 30 or more FD points in three of his last five games, which is almost 6x value at his current price.  Overall, the point guard pool is super thin tonight, so if Rondo sits this will be a very popular play in all formats.

Ishmael Smith (vs ATL, $6,100)

Ish Smith has taken over in Philly, and in a big way. He's the only competent point guard on the roster, and it's shown with his gaudy assist totals. Now these aren't Rubio or Rondo assist numbers, but he's tallied at least nine in four of his six games as a 76er .  O, and in those games of nine or more assists,he has also produced at least 40 FD points. Tonight's match up against Atlanta is a pretty good one, and as long as it stays close I expect his current hot streak to continue. His price hasn't quite reached what it should be yet, so take advantage of the discount while you can.

Fanduel DFS Shooting Guards

Kent Bazemore (at PHI, $5,700)

This is the PERFECT match up for Kent Bazemore. Yes, the 76ers are the perfect match up for a lot of NBA players, but I think Bazemore in particular will flourish tonight. The 76ers are the sixth fastest paced team in the league, and should induce a lot of running and transition play. Kent Bazemore is an elite NBA player in transition; not only does he have the size and skill to finish at the rim, but he is also a menace on the defensive end. He has notched at least two steals in three of his last six games, and I definitely expect that to be even higher tonight. As I mentioned above, other than Ish Smith there aren't any other competent ball handlers, which should give Bazemore free reign to swipe steals and and leak out in transition following the inevitable array of bricks from the 76ers. He's one of my favorite plays of the night.

Jimmy Butler (vs BOS, $8,500)

Now a lot of people might prefer to spend a little extra and nab James Harden, but because of the discount and the matchup, I prefer Butler here. Straight up Butler has been on fire recently. Over his last four games hes totaled at least 40 FD points, and I'm optimistic he'll continue that streak tonight against the Celtics. Two things I really like about this matchup. One is that the Bulls had off yesterday, giving Butler a full day to recoup before playing a second game in a row in Chicago. Secondly, the Celtics don't really have a perimeter player that Butler needs to lock down, which will allow him to expend extra energy on offense.  Overall, great situation for Butler, and I think he'll outscore Harden for a cheaper price.

Fanduel DFS Small Forwards

Evan Turner (at CHI, $5,700)

With Avery Bradley out, the Celtics will be relying on Evan Turner a little bit more over the next few games. Turner is a bit of a Swiss army knife when it comes to fantasy,  having the ability to score, rebound, and dish out assists. With the extra minutes I think Turner has a great shot at over 30 FD points, which is exactly what you need from a player at his price point. The pace of this game should be very fast, which will give Turner extra possessions to stuff the stat sheet. I also really like Jae Crowder here, for pretty much the same reasons. I think they'll produce similar FD totals, but Turner is $500 cheaper so I took the money to spend else where.

Gordon Hayward (at HOU, $7,600)

If Gordon Hayward is playing on Thursday night, expect to see him in this article.  He's been a little inconsistent of late, but I really like his match up against the Rockets, who boast the fifth worst defense in the NBA.  With Alec Burks, Derrick Favors, and Rudy Gobert out, Hayward has had to shoulder a lot more of the load on both ends. While he might not score very efficiently some nights, he always grabs a handful of rebounds and dishes out assists which makes him a pretty safe play. If he limits his turnovers and his shot is falling this guy has the potential to crack 50 FD points.

Fanduel DFS Power Forwards

Paul Millsap (at PHI, $8,500)

With all the money I saved on my guards, I am not hesitating to spend up on Paul Millsap. I don't really like any of the mid price options for power forward, and Millsap always has the potential to be the nights high scorer. In four of his last five games he has reach at least 40 FD points, which is what you need from a player priced above $8,000.  On top of all that Millsap is playing the 76ers. While this is obviously a great match up for Millsap, I am a little worried about blow out potential. If this get's out of hand early Millsap will be one of the first guys to sub out for the night.  I think he'll be pretty highly owned because he's playing Philly, but he will probably end up being one of those guys you need to roster to win serious cash.

Taj Gibson (vs BOS, $5,400)

Taj Gibson is the only sub $8,000 big man I really feel comfortable rostering tonight. With Joakim Noah still out nursing a shoulder injury, Gibson has had a much larger role within the Bulls front court rotation. Last game against Milwaukee he tallied a double- double (11 points, 14 rebounds) with six blocks on his way to 42.3 FD points. While I don't expect those block totals to continue, tonight's game against the Celtics provides an opportunity to reach 40 or more FD points again. The Celtics have a notoriously undersized front line, which bodes well for Gibson, who often struggles against elite size or length.  Also, as  I previously mentioned above regarding Jimmy Butler, Gibson will be well rested, while the Celtics will be on their second night of a back to back.  I think Gibson outscores a lot of the other power forwards priced above him tonight.

FanDuel DFS Centers

Jeff Withey (at HOU, $4,700)

Last but certainly not least, my favorite value play of the night. I don't understand how Jeff Withey's price is still below $5,000. He has AVERAGED 29 FD points over his last six contests, which is a baseline of 6x value. He'll probably be very highly owned tonight, and its always tempting to roster DeMarcus Cousins, but Withey is by far the best bang for your buck tonight. Although he will most likely be matched up with Dwight Howard the whole game,  that also means he'll be around the basket the entire game- in perfect position to grab rebounds and block shots. If the Rockets can get the Jazz to play a little faster than they usually do (I think they will), Withey will have an opportunity to reach around 35 FD points with the extra possessions. Fade at your own risk.
