Recent Update

11/1:Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale (shoulder) will not need offseason surgery and is expected to be 100 percent by spring training, according to president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski. “We think everything that will take care of it is just rest,” Dombrowski said. “So that’s really where we are. We don’t anticipate anything from a surgical procedure whatsoever.” The lefty ace made just one start from July 28 to Sept. 10 due to left shoulder inflammation that put him on the disabled list twice. Manager Alex Cora will be very cautious with Sale, David Price and Rick Porcello in spring training given their hefty workloads during their World Series run. Sale was electric before his injury but wasn't as dominant after and dealt with an injury in the postseason. The dominant left-hander has gone 200-plus innings in four of the last six seasons, so the mileage is a concern. However, he'll remain an elite fantasy starter taken in the early rounds in 2019. The fact that he won't need surgery is a good sign, but it doesn't remove some injury risk for Sale.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
