Recent Update

4/27:San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Johnny Cueto gave up three earned runs to the Dodgers on Wednesday, going six innings and lowering his ERA to 5.10. Cueto struck out five and walked two and also gave up a homer to Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager. Giving up another homer is particularly concerning for Cueto, who has now given up six this year. Cueto is a great buy-low candidate, as the homers are likely going to regress, and Cueto's ERA should fall quite a bit. Cueto is an elite talent, so don't give up on him five starts into the year. He will rematch the Dodgers his next time out.--Troy Klauder - RotoBaller

Beat Writer Chatter

  • @PavlovicNBCS: Pence said he was waiting for a curveball that whole at-bat. Cueto: "They looked more like pitchouts ... but he was swinging."
  • @hankschulman: #SFGiants are nine outs away from Cueto's second loss. Last year, he got his second loss on July 17.
  • @hankschulman: This is HARD, says C Arroyo (1-for-9). I hear ya, says C Bellinger (1-for-6, 3 straight Ks v Cueto). Not unexpected for both great prospects
  • @hankschulman: Cueto 12-pitch first inning despite two first-pitch singles. Sliding catch by Pence ends it. Bellinger K'd on three pitches. #SFGiants

  • @PavlovicNBCS: Giants-Dodgers matchups: Cain vs. Ryu, Blach vs. Kershaw, Cueto vs. Wood, Moore vs. Maeda
  • @hankschulman: In a friendly reminder that things can always get worse, I present my story on the #SFGiants' loss. via @sfchronicle
  • @hankschulman: It just never gets better for #SFGiants, whose rotten day ends with a Cueto defeat. via @sfchronicle
  • @PavlovicNBCS: Giants lost 6-5. Cueto took his first loss. They’re 6-11 on the season, five games behind the first-place Rockies.
  • @extrabaggs: More on Cueto with the bases loaded: Before the slam, opponents had a .167 average against him in 126 career at-bats with bags juiced.
  • @extrabaggs: Cueto had allowed 110 solo homers, 39 two-run shots and 14 three-run shots. Never a grand slam till tonight.
  • @hankschulman: Rather unbelievable that Cueto had never allowed a slam considering he spent most of his career in Great American Slam Park. #SFGiants
  • @PavlovicNBCS: Five straight hits for Rockies, including a Story grand slam. Righetti is out to chat with Cueto.
  • @extrabaggs: Johnny Cueto gives up the first grand slam of his career. Trevor Story gives Rockies a 4-3 lead.
  • @hankschulman: Cueto would also tie Matt Cain and Rick Reuschel for the San Francisco record of wins in eight consecutive starts. #SFGiants
  • @hankschulman: BTW, Cueto bidding to be first #SFGiants pitcher to win first 4 starts in a season since Freak in 2010.
  • @hankschulman: I can report Cueto IS on the mound. I'd have thought he'd opt out during batting practice to get away from this cursed team. #SFGiants
