Major League Baseball (MLB) has had 30 teams for the last 26 years. The last time an expansion occurred was back in 1998 when the Arizona Diamondbacks and Tampa Bay Devil Rays (now just called Rays) were added. These two additions make the 30 teams that we all see today.

Although there have been discussions about possibly expanding the league to 32 teams, there will only be 30 teams entering the 2025 season. Half of those teams are in the American League (AL), and the other half are in the National League (NL). Those 15 teams in each league are then broken down and placed into three different divisions (East, Central, and West).
