MLB Starting Pitcher Patrol: The Best SP Streamers for (5/31/16)

Welcome to Starting Pitcher Patrol. Today's slate has a lot of talented pitchers to choose from. We shall see if Jake Arrieta can bounce back from his worst start of the season while Jose Fernandez gets a tough test against a Pirates offense that has been solid this year. Corey Kluber will try to cool off a Texas Rangers team that is swinging hot sticks while C.C. Sabathia will run it back against a Blue Jays lineup he just dominated five days ago.

In this article, I’ll be providing you with the top starting pitcher streamers for daily fantasy baseball (DFS) and for seasonal leagues for 5/31/16. These streamers will range from high-priced / high-ownership options to low-priced / low-ownership options, and will be sleepers and value picks for your cash games and GPPs on DraftKings and FanDuel, and also for seasonal leagues with daily lineups.

There'll be three main sections of this article: our Pitcher Matchups Tool’s top plays, my value plays, and pitchers to fade. I highly recommend you check out the Daily Pitcher Matchups Ratings tool - it's an extremely useful tool for daily fantasy or seasonal streaming for finding the diamonds in the rough. Anyways, let's get cracking!

Daily Pitcher Matchup Ratings Tool Top Plays

Steven Matz (SP-NYM) vs. Chicago White Sox

FanDuel: $10,300 / DraftKings: $11,100

Matz earns the top spot here, and deservedly so. He's been dominant lately, posting 30 or more DraftKings points in three of his past four starts. He gets to take on a White Sox team that has been solid against left-handed pitching, but Matz is going so well right now that he's tough to fade, especially at home.

Jose Fernandez (SP-MIA) vs. Pittsburgh Pirates

FanDuel: $11,100 / DraftKings: $12,400

Fernandez is in a similar boat as Matz. He doesn't have an easy matchup in store for him, but he's been pitching so well that he's still a solid play. He's struck out double-digit batters in three of his past four starts and has been pitching deeper into games, which was the main issue fantasy owners were grumbling about earlier in the season.

Matt’s Value Plays of the Day

J.A. Happ (SP-TOR) vs. New York Yankees

FanDuel: $8,400 / DraftKings: $7,400

Happ's last start also came against the Yankees, where he held the Bronx Bombers to one run over seven innings. They will go at it again tonight and Happ is in a good position to hold them down in a second straight outing. The Yankees have struggled against left-handed pitching during the year, ranking just 24th in the league in wOBA and 26th in ISO versus lefties.

Jake Peavy (SP-SF) @ Atlanta Braves

FanDuel: $6,000 / DraftKings: $6,600

Peavy has definite blow-up potential, but he does draw a favorable matchup against one of the least effective offenses in the league. Atlanta, against right-handed pitching, is just 29th in wOBA and is last in the league in ISO. If there was ever a spot for Peavy to reclaim the glory years, this could be that spot.

Starting Pitchers to Fade in Daily Fantasy Baseball

Corey Kluber (SP-CLE) vs. Texas Rangers

FanDuel: $9,500 / DraftKings: $10,400

Kluber is a great pitcher, but the Rangers have been white-hot at the plate over the past few games. Kluber always has a chance to pitch a gem, but he's also turned in a few clunkers in what looked like good matchups. At his price point against a hot offense, rostering Kluber just doesn't seem worth it today.

Gerrit Cole (SP-PIT) @ Miami Marlins

FanDuel: $10,000 / DraftKings: $9,600

Cole has struck out just five batters combined in his past two starts. Combine that with the fact the Marlins are striking out just 19.4% of the time and Cole is lacking upside today. Oh, and he's squaring off against ace Jose Fernandez, which will make a win hard to come by. This is an easy fade today.
