Mecole Hardman (WR, KC) - Week 2 Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in All Leagues

OWNED IN: 15% of Leagues

ANALYSIS: While there's still not much clarity on the Tyreek Hill injury situation, we do know that Hill is set to miss at least some time, leaving the Kansas City Chiefs fairly light at the wide receiver position.

There's Sammy Watkins, who was the star for the team in Week 1 as he caught nine of his 11 targets, finishing with 198 yards and three touchdowns. Watkins has faced a lot of questions in the past about his inconsistency, but Sunday was a showcase of what he can do when he's playing his best.

But Watkins can't do everything and he won't explode each week, which leaves the Chiefs needing another wide receiver to step up. In terms of giving a chance to someone who can provide an approximation of what Hill gives them, it's rookie Mecole Hardman who stands the best chance of being that guy in Kansas City.

Hardman ran a 40-yard dash in the 95th percentile at the NFL Combine, and all the buzz when he was drafted was that he was an insurance policy for Hill. Hardman's NFL debut featured him getting targeted just once, but he was on the field for 78 percent of Kansas City's offensive snaps. Even though his target share was extremely low, it's clear that it's Hardman who'll get the chance to line up across from Watkins.

There's no guarantee that Mahomes looks Hardman's way enough to make him fantasy relevant, but it's incredibly hard to ignore that he's got Hill-like speed and will be on the field for the vast majority of snaps on a team whose quarterback is Patrick Mahomes. That's worth an add in all formats because of the upside.
