Luis Urias (2B, SD) - Week 10 Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues

OWNED IN: 9% of leagues

ANALYSIS: In 72 AB at the MLB level, consensus top-30 prospect Luis Urias has been slow to accelerate with just two home runs and a steal to go with a less-than pedestrian .167/.256/.278 slash. That would definitely be a bummer, that is if he wasn't currently blowing the doors off of El Paso. Urias has been an unstoppable force of nature at Triple-A in 2019 with a torqued 13 blasts to the stands, four stolen bases (in five tries), and a downright destructive slash of .355/.453/.711. While the power hitting may seem a bit out of the blue, it was a welcome and overwhelming addition to his game.

The issue still remains of whether Urias can get a chance at consistent plate appearances for the major league Padres. While Ian Kinsler has shown intermittent flashes of his past prowess, he has still continued to struggle all around on offense, and the dominance of Urias in El Paso could certainly fast-track this transition. The San Diego organization is youth-centered, future-driven, and would more than likely love to see Urias next to Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado on a nightly basis as soon as possible. If he can find his path to more big league AB, Luis Urias could potentially figure out his MLB plate approach and unleash his repertoire on opposing pitchers.
