Jayden Daniels MVP Case
Per DraftKings Sportsbook, Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels is at +1000 in MVP odds. That currently puts him fifth in the pecking order behind Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, and C.J. Stroud.
Can Jayden Daniels win MVP as a rookie? 🤔
Rank
• 77.1% Comp % 1st
• 7.5 aDOT 2nd
• 106.3 passer rtg 5th
• 300 rushing yds 2nd (in QBs)
• Only 2 INTs
Daniels leads the NFL with a 77.1% completion rate with 1,135 yards and four touchdowns. He's been picked off twice. As a runner, he has 57 carries for 300 yards and four touchdowns.
The first-year QB hasn't had the best statistical season so far, but he's definitely up there. If he continues to play like this, he'll remain a top-five MVP candidate and will have a viable shot at the award if the players ahead of him have missteps down the stretch.
Rookies To Win NFL MVP
Would Daniels be the first rookie to win the NFL MVP award? No, but it's been a long time.
Only once has a rookie won the award, which happened in the pre-Super Bowl era when Cleveland Browns running back Jim Brown won the award in 1957.
That season, Brown rushed for 942 yards and nine touchdowns, both marks that led the NFL. It was far from Brown's best reason, as he failed to eclipse 1,000 yards for one of just two times in his career. Ultimately, Brown went on to be one of the best running backs ever, leading the NFL in rushing yards in eight of his nine seasons.
Only one rookie has won the NFL's MVP award -- Jim Brown in 1957. Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels can be the second. To get there, the key will be to secure the No. 1 seed in the NFC. https://t.co/o688hsmRP8
Last season, Houston Texans rookie quarterback Stroud made a valiant run at MVP, finishing ninth in the voting as he led his team to the playoffs but missed two games, which hurt his shot at earning the award.
