The New York Jets acquired both Tyler Conklin and C.J. Uzomah for the 2021 season. Uzomah’s contract is for three years and $25 million. Conklin’s contract is for three years and $20.3 million.
Last season, the Jets’ five tight ends accounted for 50 receptions and 534 receiving yards. This is while the team used 12 personnel on 20% of their offensive snaps in the first nine weeks. In Weeks 10-18, it dropped down to 12%, per Sharp Football Stats.
Conklin, who played with the Minnesota Vikings last season, ran 427 routes (seventh-most among TEs) and was on the receiving end of 87 targets (12th). He had six deep targets (17th) and 15 red zone targets (10th), accounting for a 15.6% target share. Uzomah ran 414 routes with the Cincinnati Bengals last season (11th in the league for TEs) and was on the receiving end of 63 targets (21st). He only had one deep target and six red zone targets.

Which TE is Better For Fantasy Football?
If the preseason is any indication, Conklin will be TE1 for the Jets in fantasy, but both will see substantial time on the field.
In this year’s Green & White practice, Conklin caught two passes on curl routes for 19 and four yards and found the end zone on a seam route from 10 yards out. In the two-minute drill, he caught a six-yard pass moving the ball to midfield. Meanwhile, Uzomah played to his strengths as a pass protector in the blocking scheme.
Conklin has not only been balling out in training camp but in the first preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Conklin was targeted four times and had three receptions for 23 yards. Considering Conklin was on the field for only 14 offensive snaps, that gives his target to route ratio 57.1%. Uzomah was targeted once and had zero receptions.
Last season, Uzomah allowed only one pressure on 41 pass-blocking snaps. That was the fifth-best out of 49 qualified tight ends. The Bengals scored half of their 14 non-quarterback rushing touchdowns on carries that went outside of the tight end.
For fantasy purposes, Conklin is TE1 on the Jets, and for the Jets' purpose, Uzomah and his blocking skills can make him TE1a.
