In 2019, Michael Thomas had a historic year. Catching 149 passes, he set the record for the most receptions in a season in NFL history. The wideout was a PPR cheat code that year and probably helped you secure a fantasy football title. He looked to be on a Hall of Fame trajectory.

Unfortunately for Thomas, things have not been the same since that 2019 season. He has battled injuries and was ultimately cut by the Saints this offseason.

Is Michael Thomas a Free Agent?

Thomas has not yet signed with a new club and remains a free agent. The veteran has not been the same player since he suffered an ankle injury during the 2020 season and has only appeared in 20 out of a possible 67 games in the last four years. Durability has been a major issue. It’s unclear what type of interest teams have in Thomas at the current moment. He’s probably faced with signing a one-year deal if he wants to continue playing.

Which Teams Would be the Best Fit for Michael Thomas?

Denver Broncos

The Broncos have a potential opening after shipping Jerry Jeudy off to Cleveland. Signing with Denver would mean a reunion with longtime coach Sean Payton. Perhaps he could find a way to maximize Thomas’s declining skill set. Given the reported issues between Payton and Thomas over the latter’s return from an ankle injury in 2020, this might be wishful thinking.

Kansas City Chiefs

The defending champs' receiver room is once again a potential liability with the ongoing legal troubles of Rashee Rice. Kansas City appeared to be set after adding Marquise Brown in free agency, but Rice’s issues have thrown things in flux. Thomas could present a reliable underneath option and fill Rice’s role in the offense during any possible suspension. The veteran might also be interested in playing with Patrick Mahomes and finally winning a Super Bowl ring.

New York Giants

Here, we are looking at a team in major need of receiving help. New York is reportedly exploring taking a quarterback at sixth overall in next week’s draft. It would surely add a receiver at some point as well. Whatever direction the Giants go, they might be interested in adding a veteran presence to help incumbent starter Daniel Jones or a potential rookie signal-caller.
