The biggest waiver week of the year for fantasy football is the one heading into Week 2. After Week 1, we finally gain clarity on certain situations. And, of course, players unexpectedly have big games to begin the year.

New England Patriots tight end Hunter Henry falls under that category of a player who finished Week 1 with a nice day. With the tight end position being so inconsistent in fantasy, Henry could be a player to target on the waiver wire.

So, should you pick him up on the waivers? What did he do in Week 1? Let's take a closer look.

What Did Hunter Henry Do In Week 1?

Following a down year for Henry -- finishing as the TE22 in PPR formats -- the 28-year-old tight end started his 2023 campaign with a solid day. He caught five passes on six targets for 56 yards and one touchdown while playing 79% of the Patriots' snaps.

While it didn't seem like an overly impressive day, his 16.6 PPR fantasy point was actually the most for all tight ends in the opening week. His touchdown came late in the second quarter when he and quarterback Mac Jones connected for a nine-yard score to put New England on the board.

With wide receiver DeVante Parker (knee) missing the season opener, Henry saw more work in the receiving game. His five catches and 56 receiving yards were third-most among all Patriot players in Sunday's loss. 

Is Hunter Henry A Good Fantasy Football Pickup For Week 2?

As we head into Week 2, Henry is a solid pickup in 10-plus team formats. He is currently the TE1 in fantasy, and while that likely won't be the case all year, there is a path for the tight end to get solid usage in 2023. 

The Patriots brought over offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien to call the plays in New England. O'Brien was previously the offensive coordinator for New England in 2011. That year, the team went 13-3 and marched all the way to the Super Bowl. But what's interesting about that season is how involved his tight ends were in the receiving game.

Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez combined for 169 catches for 2,237 yards and 24 touchdowns that season. Of course, Henry and Mike Gesicki likely won't put up those numbers this year. But O'Brien's offense usually heavily targets tight ends. That's why Henry is worth a waiver claim in fantasy this week.
