Is De'Von Achane or Raheem Mostert The Fantasy Football RB1 for the Dolphins?

Who will be the RB1 for the Miami Dolphins in 2024? Joey Pollizze takes a look at the credentials of each candidate to see who is likely the lead running back.

The Miami Dolphins backfield will feature a ton of speed this upcoming season. With De'Von Achane, Raheem Mostert, and rookie Jaylen Wright leading this Dolphins running back group in 2024, it's safe to say they have the fastest backfield in all of football.

Wright will likely take a backseat on offense in his first year, especially given the way both Achane and Mostert ran the ball last season. The former averaged 7.8 yards per carry as a rookie, while the 32-year-old veteran scored a whopping 21 total touchdowns. 

So, is Achane or Mostert the fantasy football RB1 for the Dolphins? Let's dive in and find out.

Who is the Miami Dolphins' RB1?

Last year, Mostert was the Dolphins' RB1 for the whole season. He was the team's primary running back and carried the ball a career-high 209 times for 1,012 yards and 18 touchdowns. However, expect that to change in 2024 with Achane now entering his second NFL season. 

Achane dealt with a bunch of injuries in his rookie campaign, which caused him to miss six games. As a result, the former Texas A&M running back only saw 103 carries. But he was a threat on the ground and through the air, totaling 800 rush yards and 197 receiving yards. That dual-threat ability will help him stay on the field and eventually push him up the depth chart as the team's RB1. 

Mostert, though, will still be involved in 2024 and could find himself as the Dolphins' starting running back early in the season. But at age 32, how much more does he have left? That's why fantasy managers should expect Achane to overtake him as Miami's RB1 as the season progresses. He is an explosive back looking to build off his encouraging rookie season. 

 

Who Should I Draft in Fantasy Football?

Achane and Mostert have very different ADPs entering the 2024 fantasy season. The 22-year-old has a 23.4 ADP on Sleeper, while the veteran has an 83.4 ADP. Most fantasy managers are in on the young running back in fantasy this year after a strong rookie campaign. However, he just might be too risky to take in the second round of drafts. He showed last season that he is a very boom-or-bust option, and taking those types of players early in drafts is always risky. 

That's why Mostert might be the better value pick in the seventh or eighth round. Yes, he is on the older side, and the wheels could fall off in 2024. However, given what he did last year in that Dolphins offense, the touchdown upside could be there again for the 32-year-old.
