Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook has been rumored to be a cut or trade candidate all offseason, and even though he remains and the Vikings, there's speculation he could end up in Miami with the Dolphins.

The Florida native posted his fourth consecutive season of at least 1,100 rushing yards in 2022, but he averaged a career-low 4.4 yards per carry. The Vikings re-signed Alexander Mattison and hinted toward moving on from Cook. Again, he's still with the team, but many believe he'll be released or traded before the 2023 season is underway and Miami is a prime candidate for his services.

Dalvin Cook 2022 Season Review

In 17 games for Minnesota, Cook rushed 264 times for 1,173 yards and eight rushing scores. He added 39 receptions for 295 yards and two receiving touchdowns. It was still a very productive year for the 27-year-old, but his efficiency saw a decline.

He can still be explosive and provide big plays in spurts, but it might be time for him to see a limited workload instead of a top opportunity share among running backs.

Would Cook Be A Good Fit for the Dolphins?

The Miami Herald's Barry Jackson writes that he is "a real possibility" for the Miami Dolphins if he's released. The Dolphins could also choose to trade for Cook, who is currently training in South Florida while recovering from offseason shoulder surgery. If he were to land in Miami, Cook would be joining an already crowded backfield that includes Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson Jr., and rookie De'Von Achane.

Ultimately, Minnesota presents the best situation for Cook's fantasy upside. He's been a workhorse running back for the Vikings, and many of the other possible destinations would not give him such a large workload. In Miami, a mid-level RB2 season would be the likely ceiling.

He's more established than all of the other Dolphins' RBs, but he has the most mileage on his body and arguably the least amount of gas in the tank.  He would have plenty of volume in the high-powered offense led by Tua Tagovailoa, but again, he'd likely operate in a committee for the first time in his career.
