San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey (Achilles, calf) is likely itching to get back on the field. His fantasy managers, meanwhile, are living a nightmare that they hope ends soon. His inexplicable offseason injury was shocking to many and has shaken up nearly every fantasy league in existence.
He still hasn't played a down of football this season. Many fantasy managers who drafted him with an early pick are already out of playoff contention, but for those who aren't, he offers a glimmer of hope. He's one of if not the best running backs in the league when fully healthy.
But will he play in Week 10? Here is the latest update.

Is Christian McCaffrey Injured or Playing in Week 10?
He will make his season debut on Sunday when his team takes on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Adam Schefter said so, so it's true! The team also reported he could have played last week. Then again, they said he would have played in Week 1 if it were a playoff game, and we all saw how that situation turned out.
49ers RB Christian McCaffrey, listed as questionable due to his Achilles injury, will make his 2024 season debut Sunday vs. Tampa. The team believes McCaffrey could have played last week.

Christian McCaffrey Fantasy Football Injury Outlook
His injury is caused by overuse of the tendons- Achilles tendonitis recovers only with rest (and whatever magic he had done in Germany, supposedly). Fantasy managers should hope he's fully recovered and can last at least eight games before it flares up again if that's possible.
49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan will run him into the ground. It's just what he does. He admitted as much in a recent interview. Yes, CMC is "just a little bit different," but it would be wise for Shanny to let rookie back Isaac Guerendo spell him a little bit. Fantasy managers love McCaffrey's workload, so if he stays healthy, it'll be worth it for them.
Kyle Shanahan on how he envisions Christian McCaffrey, Jordan Mason and Isaac Guerendo in games:
“We’ll see how it goes with Christian. You don’t just sit there and split everything up just to do it. You keep the people out there that gives you the best chance to win on each… pic.twitter.com/NC3QN11VnL

He's not the best coach to have as a player if you want to stay healthy, though. We have plenty of evidence for that. Either way, you have to start him in fantasy. It's a no-brainer. Be sure to look at the final list of inactive players for any surprises, though.
