How to Win on Fanduel Football - Advice for Weekly Fantasy Gamers (Part 2)

Last time,  we introduced the weekly fantasy football game by giving you a brief overview of what you can expect, and also our top three rules for anyone playing for money.  Today we are digging into some strategies that we personally like to follow.  We will start with the very deep Quarterback position for this week and work through the Running Back and Wide Receiver positions in our following articles.

How to Select a Quarterback

You have two very extreme strategic options, either one of which is going to strongly shape the rest of your lineup.  Either you go with an elite stud quarterback that costs a hefty percentage of your fantasy budget (like a Peyton Manning), or you go with an upside sleeper play (like Terrelle Pryor) that can provide a significant return on investment but likewise presents some bed-pooping potential on any given Sunday.  With both options in weekly league play, there are some inherent risks, so let's quickly break down each side of the equation so that you can decide which approach is most suitable for you.

Option 1: Going with the Ace

With the "ace" quarterback, you can expect to spend in the $9K-or-above range on Fanduel, and this can leave you in a very strong position to rack up some huge points, but also leave you vulnerable if he doesn't go bonkers as expected when you are spending so much.  If you use this option, you will be forced to make some sacrifices at at least one of your running backs (if not both), and there are sure to be some tougher decisions when you get down to your third wide receiver or tight end.  At the end of the day, this is my preferred approach because I view the quarterback position much like I do the starting pitcher in Fanduel's daily baseball games: this is the roster spot that has the potential to score by far the most points, and you shouldn't flinch about spending the most amount of your dough here.

Option 2: Going with the Sleeper

We warn you in advance that we won't frequently give this approach  our personal stamp of approval, but there are many industry experts who will argue to death about the benefits of this strategy.  Net, net, bottom line: if you are planning on getting cute with your weekly fantasy football league lineup by spending less money on your quarterback than your worst running back, you are going to want to do some good, hard research about the correct matchup to target.  While there is no doubt the possibility for explosive upside with some of these volatile players, there is very little room for error, because those mistakes could result in a goose egg!  Don't go for the the immobile, one-week wonder if you can avoid it.  Additionally, it's good to target the matchup versus the price tag, and that gets even more critical when splitting hairs at the lowest price points.

Now that you've got the basics down, are you ready for the real thing?

This  week, Fanduel is hosting an exclusive partners-only tournament.  It's a n inexpensive $5 entry tournament with over $2500 in prizes awarded. And remember, our experts are hanging around in our chatrooms all day to answer any type of lineup questions you might have!

(If you are a first-time Fanduel user, remember you can register through RotoBaller and get a very nice 100% deposit bonus).

That's it for this week fellow RotoBallers!  Stay tuned for our next installment and don't forget to sign up for a Fanduel contest this week to start experiencing all the fun and instant fantasy football gratification that has been missing in your life!
