Welcome back race fans. This week the Monster Energy Cup Series heads to Watkins Glen International for the second of three road course races of the season. All three tracks fall under the same "road course" umbrella but are very different from each other. We don't know much at this point about the Charlotte course as they have only practiced there but we do have a large sample from the other two tracks. While Sonoma is the more technical track, Watkins Glen is the superspeedway of road courses and creates some exciting racing, especially through the bus stop.
For fantasy, there are only 90 laps in the race which takes away from the importance of dominator points this week. In fact, there has only been one driver to lead 50 or laps in the last seven races. PLace differential is always dependant on qualifying and that will very interesting once again this week with the condensed weekend. Qualifying happens on Saturday after the Xfinity race but inspection won't happen until Sunday morning meaning we won't have an official lineup until hours before the race. Because of this, stay tuned Sunday morning to my Twitter(@Jager_Bombs9) as well as my cheatsheet as I will be updating it with all the relevant info along with my top picks for the race.
Daily Fantasy NASCAR: DraftKings and FanDuel DFS Lineup Picks - Go Bowling at The Glen
Kyle Busch(DK-$11,800 FD-$12,300)
I will be heavily targeting the Toyota's this week and Kyle Busch is at the top of my list. He is the only active driver with multiple wins here at Watkins Glen and has Top 10's in 11 of his last 12 trips. He has also been good on road courses as a whole with seven straight finishes of 7th or better. He was second-fastest in the opening practice on Saturday and while he dropped to 19th in the final practice, came out in qualifying and narrowly lost the pole to his teammate Denny Hamlin.
Denny Hamlin(DK-$10,300 FD-$10,300)
Speaking of Denny, he is my second pick this week. He started his career here at Watkins Glen with four straight Top 10's but then struggled for a long time going six straight without a finish better than 19th. He appears to have his groove back with back to back Top 10's including a win in 2016 and will start on the pole this week(tentatively) and was one of just three drivers to rank Top 10 in both practices.
A.J. Allmendinger(DK-$8,300 FD-$10,000)
We can't talk about road course experts without mentioning arguably the best in the series. Allmendinger won here back in 2014 and has Top 10's in six of his last seven trips to the Glen. His price always inflates at the road courses but he is actually $500 cheaper on DraftKings than he was at this time last year and offers us a little place differential as he will start 8th on Sunday.
Daniel Suarez(DK-$7,500 FD-$9,200)
Suarez impressed here in his rookie season starting 5th and ended up finishing 3rd while also leading 14 laps during the race. He looked solid in the practice sessions ranking 6th and 15th but couldn't get things right in qualifying and will start 23rd this week giving us some excellent place differential especially considering the value price. He is a great play in all formats.
