If you're new, or just a refresher to those who read my articles last season, I'm John Brubaker. I've been betting on MLB baseball games for four years now, and this is my second MLB season working with the great folks at RotoBaller. I've created my own betting model to help me create and identify value on run lines, totals, and money lines. In this article, I'll be providing my favorite betting picks for the MLB games on Saturday, October 29, 2022. I'm continuously working to improve my models to make them more accurate, and as the season progresses, I'll share the data I have on my personal Twitter @LucidMediaDFS. Today's MLB Betting Picks - Astros @ Phillies
O/U: 7.6 | Moneyline: PHI +108
HOU: Lance McCullers Jr. | PHI: Ranger Suarez
We ended up pushing the Sunday play, as the Phillies were able to push across a few runs in the late innings. It could have very well been a loss if Kyle Schwarber had not missed a home run by just a few inches... twice. Nevertheless, we're back at it today with my favorite pick for Game 3 of the World Series, a first-inning under.
The visiting Astros will send Lance McCulllers Jr. (4-2, 2.27 ERA) to the mound tonight. McCullers was solid in the first inning this season, holding opponents scoreless in each of his three starts on the road. Ironically the only time he allowed a first-inning tally was against this Phillies team in Houston, when Kyle Schwarber opened their October 3 matchup with a home run.
Conversely, the Phillies will send Ranger Suarez (10-7, 3.65 ERA) to the mound. Suarez has also been good in the first inning in 2021, allowing a run in just seven of 28 starts overall, and in just four of 13 starts made at Citizens' Bank Park. He had a tough go of it against the Astros back on October 4, allowing homers to Jeremy Pena and Kyle Tucker en route to a five-run first inning for Houston, but was lights out in his relief appearance against the Astros in Game 1 of this series.
FanDuel Sportsbook has the first inning under at -113, which I consider being great value for any playoff game. My model gives the first-inning under a 59.9% chance of hitting, or "true" odds of -149. We'll take what we can get here, while I personally hope the Phillies are able to come away with a pivotal Game 3 victory.
