Fantasy Baseball 1B/3B Waiver Wire Pickups for Week 24 (2024)

Connor Norby - Fantasy Baseball Prospects, Draft Sleepers, MLB Rookies

Lauren's fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups for 1B and 3B for Week 24 of the 2024 season. Consider adding these free agent first basemen and third basemen.

Happy Sunday, Rotoballers, and welcome back to another edition of first base and third base fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups for Week 24 — September 2 through September 8.

Can you believe we’re heading into September already, and how wild this fantasy baseball season has been? Who would’ve guessed some of these breakout players would be carrying my team while some of the usual studs have gone quiet?

Whenever you think you've figured out your lineup, something crazy happens, and it’s like you're back to square one. It’s been a non-stop ride of surprises, and with only a few weeks left, it's time to lock in and see if you can pull off something big.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and resources:

Waiver Wire Pickups for Shallow Leagues (30-50% rostered)

Connor Norby, 2B/3B, Miami Marlins (43% rostered)

When the Orioles traded Connor Norby (and Kyle Stowers) to the Marlins in exchange for Trevor Rogers at the trade deadline, it left many in the baseball world scratching their heads. Norby was yet another top prospect in Baltimore, and sure, the O's have them in excess.

Dealing him for Rogers, who's struggled following his All-Star season in 2021, was perplexing, and the trade seems to be already paying dividends for Miami.

The Marlins recalled Norby on August 19. In 11 games this month, he's slashed .318/.388/.591 with 14 hits, including two home runs, four RBI, and five walks. He's already proved a solid contributor to Miami's offense, largely left barren following the deadline on July 30.

Geraldo Perdomo, 2B/3B/SS, Arizona Diamondbacks (39% rostered)

The Diamondbacks continue their hot second half, with 2023 All-Star Geraldo Perdomo coming alive offensively. He concluded August with a .839 OPS, three home runs, 10 RBI, and 13 walks. Perdomo also started strong in September, tallying two hits and a steal in a win against the Dodgers on Monday.

A large part of Arizona's successful second half is their lineup's ability to score runs from top to bottom. The 24-year-old hopes to finish the year strong and be a primary contributor in the D-backs' playoff push.

Waiver Wire for Deeper Leagues (10-30% rostered)

Paul DeJong, 3B/SS, Kansas City Royals (12% rostered)

After nearly seven seasons in St. Louis, Paul DeJong jumped from team to team in 2023. He began the 2024 campaign with the dumpster-fire Chicago White Sox before being traded to the Royals at the deadline. Perhaps the 31-year-old has finally found his footing in Kansas City.

His game-tying home run off of Josh Hader on Friday night was his third homer since August 26, good for a .636 slugging percentage. DeJong also contributed five RBI and three walks this past week, helping the Royals catch up to the Guardians in the AL Central standings.

Anthony Rizzo, 1B, New York Yankees (17% rostered)

Outside of a three-homer game earlier in the summer, Ben Rice has been extremely quiet offensively since his debut. He's batting just .174 and splitting time at first base with DJ LeMahieu and Oswaldo Cabrera. Despite a few outlier games, all three have underperformed at the plate, meaning the Yankees will welcome back Anthony Rizzo with open arms.

He was placed on the 60-day injured list earlier this season with a forearm fracture. Rizzo recently began a minor-league rehab assignment, in which he has gone 2-for-8 with a home run and two walks in Double-A. He is in line to be activated on Sunday. Although Rizzo struggled before his injury, it'll be difficult for him to be worse than New York's current options.

Deeper Waiver Wire Options to Consider (Under 10%)

Zach McKinstry, 2B/3B/SS/OF, Detroit Tigers (4% rostered)

In two seasons with the Tigers, Zach McKinstry has shown flashes of consistency at the plate but has mostly underperformed. However, the 29-year-old was on fire this past week, with a .550/.571/.750 batting line, 11 hits, a home run, and three RBI across 20 ABs.

Additionally, McKinstry has been utilizing his legs on the basepaths. He's now 14-for-14 in stolen bases this season. He had his best month of the season in August by far, sporting a .952 OPS in 22 games. Detroit hopes he can end the 2024 campaign on a high note.

More Waiver Wire Pickups to Consider

  • Seth Brown, 1B/OF, Oakland Athletics (4% rostered)
  • Jose Tena, 3B/SS, Washington Nationals (3% rostered)
