Fantasy Baseball 1B/3B Waiver Wire Pickups for Week 17 (2024)

Colt Keith - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, MLB Injury News

Lauren's fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups for 1B and 3B for Week 17 of the 2024 season. Consider adding these free agent first basemen and third basemen.

In one final installation before the All-Star break, let's look at more first base and third base fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups for Week 17 — July 15 through July 21.

As the MLB season hits the All-Star break, the first half of 2024 has been a whirlwind of spectacular performances, surprising upsets, and intense competition. Teams have battled through injuries, streaks, and slumps, with standout players emerging as key contributors to their squads. Young stars like Colt Keith have made memorable marks, while seasoned veterans like Eugenio Suarez have proven they still have power left.

The race for playoff positions is heating up, with tight wild-card races and division battles promising an exciting second half. Fans eagerly anticipate the return to action, hoping their teams will capitalize on the momentum and make a strong push towards October. As we pause briefly to celebrate the league's best and brightest at the All-Star festivities, the stage is set for a thrilling second half of the season.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball draft tools and resources:

Waiver Wire Pickups for Shallow Leagues (30-50% rostered)

Colt Keith, 2B/3B, Detroit Tigers (50% rostered)

Perhaps the most memorable moment of Colt Keith's young career came on Saturday when he hit a game-tying two-run home run as part of a five-run ninth inning for the Tigers. Gio Urshela eventually completed the comeback in the 10th for a win in Detroit.

The 22-year-old has been on an absolute tear, slashing .409/.552/.818 with a pair of homers, nine RBI, eight runs, and seven walks. Keith has looked like a much different player than we saw at the beginning of the season, and hopefully, it's just the beginning of a strong career for him.

Jake Burger, 1B/3B, Miami Marlins (42% rostered)

Hi, I'd like to order a Burger with a .296/.367/.519 batting line, two home runs, and seven RBI on the side, please? Yes, those are Jake Burger's stats over the last week. The 28-year-old is performing well at the plate again and may be worth adding this week.

Burger had a four-hit day on Saturday against the Reds, with a home run and four RBI. Sadly, it wasn't enough to will the Marlins to a win, but his .826 OPS in July is a great sign as we enter the All-Star break. He could be a solid bat to roster during the second half.

Waiver Wire for Deeper Leagues (10-30% rostered)

Eugenio Suarez, 3B, Arizona Diamondbacks (24% rostered)

Is it finally Eugenio Suarez's time to shine in a D-backs uniform? Let's not get ahead of ourselves, but Arizona's third baseman has looked better of late. The 32-year-old slugged .750 with three home runs, a .292 batting average, and 10 RBI in his last seven games.

He blasted a Charlie Morton change-up 452 feet this week, which came off the bat at 110.6 mph. Huh, it turns out the former All-Star still has some power left in him after all! Still, the Snakes will need much more from Suarez if they hope to keep pace in the extremely tight NL wild-card race, which they are one game back of as of Saturday.

Rowdy Tellez, 1B, Pittsburgh Pirates (16% rostered)

All of the attention has been on Paul Skenes in Pittsburgh, and rightfully so, but July has been Rowdy Tellez's best month in a Pirates uniform by far. He owns a 1.062 OPS with four home runs through 11 games this month.

The 29-year-old slugger began to pick it up offensively at the end of June, hitting two homers in his final four games of the month. Tellez peaked in 2022 when he launched 35 long balls with the Brewers, and with the Bucs in the middle of a wild-card race, they hope his power is here to stay.

Deeper Waiver Wire Options to Consider (Under 10%)

Michael Toglia, 1B/OF, Colorado Rockies (6% rostered)

Although he appeared on this list in Week 15, it's hard to keep Michael Toglia off of here when he's still going off at the plate. No, he's not hitting for average, but the power is there.

The 25-year-old has three home runs in his last seven games with five RBI, three walks, and a .619 slugging percentage. His 2024 stats resemble somewhat of a Kyle Schwarber slash line, as he sports a .186 average with 13 homers.
