FanDuel MLB DFS Lineup Picks (8/16/18): Daily Fantasy Baseball Advice

Tom Vecchio highlights the top FanDuel MLB DFS lineup picks for 8/16/18, and a couple of sleepers to consider while building daily rosters.

We have a split slate of games with only two in the early window and then a seven-game main slate. Options are a bit thin across the board, so it could be a time to take a shot in some tournaments, where it's easy to be different.

In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy baseball lineup picks for FanDuel on 8/16/18. The lineup picks will range from some of the elite players to mid-priced options and value plays.

You can also read more DFS lineup picks for DraftKings and other sports too. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to contact me up on Twitter @DFS_Tom.

FanDuel DFS Pitchers

Julio Teheran - P, ATL vs COL (FD - $7,800)

Teheran could be the definition of risk and reward on most slates and today is no different. He has six or more strikeouts in three of his last five games and is now facing a Rockies team, who has a 23.4% strikeout rate vs right-handed pitchers this season. That is the reward side of things. But, he is giving up 1.25 HR/9 to lefties and 1.83 HR/9 to righties this season and is at a great hitter's park. That is the risk. The Rockies do have a 79 wRC+ vs RHP, showing they struggle a bit away from Coors Field.

Clay Buchholz – P, ARI @ SDP (FD - $8,500)

Buchholz certainly isn’t the best or most consistent pitcher, but he has a great matchup in front of him tonight. He is facings off against the Padres, who come in with a 25.7% strikeout rate vs right-handed pitchers this season, which is third worst in the league. The Padres also have a team wOBA of .310 vs right-handed pitchers, along with a team ISO of .127, both of which aren’t very threatening. Great park factor here and up against a weak opponent.

FanDuel DFS Infielders

Justin Smoak – 1B, TOR @ KAN (FD - $3,600)

Smoak has a .386 wOBA and a massive .260 ISO vs right-handed pitchers this season and will now be facing off against Glenn Sparkman, who is giving up a .348 wOBA to lefties. Sparkman has a small sample size this season but has given up nine earned runs in 16 innings this season with two home runs allowed.

Logan Forsythe – 2B, MIN vs DET (FD - $2,300)

Forsythe is cheap and will have the platoon advantage against Francisco Liriano tonight, who is giving up a .360 wOBA to righties this season. Would use him in righty stack tonight or simply a punt play tonight.

David Bote – 3B, CHC @ PIT (FD - $2,900)

Bote has a .413 wOBA and a .222 ISO vs right-handed pitchers this season and is in a good spot to continue some of his recent success. He is up against Ivan Nova, who is giving up 1.26 HR/9 to righties, along with a 35% hard contact rate.

Asdrubal Cabrera – SS, PHI vs NYM (FD - $3,000)

Cabrera is up against his former team the Mets tonight, so if you want to believe in a bit of revenge narrative, this is the spot. He has a .361 wOBA and a .242 ISO vs right-handed pitchers this season and is now up against Corey Oswalt, who is giving up 1.59 HR/9 to lefties this season.

FanDuel DFS Outfielders

Charlie Blackmon – OF, COL @ ATL (FD - $3,300)

Blackmon is up against Julio Teheran, who is certainly struggling with the home run ball this season, giving up 1.25 HR/9 to lefties, along with a 42% fly ball rate and a 42% hard contact rate. Blackmon and the Rockies have a negative park shift against them being away from Coors Field, but Atlanta is still a very good hitter’s park.

Kole Calhoun – OF, LAA @ TEX (FD - $3,700)

Calhoun gets a nice positive park being in Texas tonight and should be a prime home run candidate with his .209 ISO vs right-handed pitchers. He finds himself up against Ariel Jurado, who is giving up a .417 wOBA and 2.16 HR/9 to lefties this season.
