FanDuel, DraftKings NHL DFS Lineup Picks (3/5/19): Daily Fantasy Hockey

We have a 10-game slate tonight where there are many teams in action who are in the playoff hunt, so no rest for them as the season comes to an end. You should be looking at teams in higher over-under games, due to the potential for plenty of scoring.

Vegas lines are big when it comes to picking games to target, and that's a good place to start for goalies. When it comes to skaters, goal totals is another main place to start. Usually, 5.5 goals are average, so targets game at six, and can look for goalies in games with a total at five.

In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy hockey lineup picks for DraftKings and FanDuel on 3/5/19. The lineup picks will range from some of the elite players to mid-priced options and value plays. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to hit me up on Twitter @DFS_Tom. Let's get to it, shall we?

DFS Forwards to Consider

Nathan MacKinnon - C, COL vs DET (FD - $8,000, DK - $7,900)

MacKinnon's price has dropped just slightly on FanDuel, so you should consider him for tournaments tonight since he brings plenty of multi-point upside. He is facing off against the Red Wings, who are allowing 11.87 high-danger scoring chances per 60 minutes, which is the sixth most in the league. This should put the Avalanche in a spot to score plenty of goals, which is indicated by the 6.5 over-under and the fact they are -210 home favorites. MacKinnon is up on the first forward line and the first power-play unit, which is expensive to stack but on a 10-game slate, shouldn't be too highly owned.

Jared McCann - W, PIT vs FLA (FD - $4,300, DK - $4,000)

There are a few things to take note of when it comes to McCann tonight, so let's break it down. First off, he is playing up on the first forward line for the Penguins now and is very cheap across the industry. Getting exposure to Crosby on the top line is always a good thing and now at a discounted priced is something which can be tough to pass up when the Penguins are -200 home favorites. McCann isn't playing on either power-play unit, so his potential upside might be limited a bit tonight, but hopefully, he makes the most of his ice time, since he is going up against his former team.

DFS Defenders to Consider

Oliver Ekman-Larsson - D, ARI vs ANH (FD - $5,100, DK - $4,600)

OEL is still TOO CHEAP across the industry tonight and is riding a five-game point streak, which should almost certainly continue tonight given how soft the matchup is. He is facing off against the Ducks who are bottom three in the league in both Corsi Against and the number of high-danger scoring chances allowed per 60. This provides a massive opportunity for OEL and the Coyotes to outperform salary since they are so cheap and have a very advantageous matchup you should be looking to attack.

Mikhail Sergachev - D, TB vs WPG (FD - $3,800, DK - $4,300)

Sergachev is another cheaper option at defense today and hopefully, he stays on the second power-play unit for the Lightning. They have been switching up their lines a decent amount recently and he was also scratched for one game, so be sure to double-check lineups before the lock. He comes in with two points in his last five games but is now facing off against the Jets in a game where the over-under is set at seven, which is the highest on the slate. We should see plenty of offense here and if you are looking to do a game stack, you will need some savings at some point.

DFS Goalies to Consider

Pekka Rinne - G, NSH vs MIN (FD - $8,200, DK - $8,100)

Rinne is one of the most expensive options on the slate but he comes in as a -200 home favorite against the Wild in a game where the over-under is only 5.5 goals. The Predators have one of the best defenses in the league, which is why Rinne has under 30 saves in four of his last five games. This means his potential upside is generally limited since the save volume won't be there, but you are trading that off for relative safety and the win.
