FanDuel, DraftKings NHL DFS Lineup Picks (2/23/19): Daily Fantasy Hockey

We have a split slate of game today with a few in the early win, a few in the afternoon and then the night slate highlighted by the Penguins at Flyers in a classic outdoor game.

Vegas lines are big when it comes to picking games to target, and that's a good place to start for goalies. When it comes to skaters, goal totals is another main place to start. Usually, 5.5 goals are average, so targets game at six, and can look for goalies in games with a total at five.

In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy hockey lineup picks for DraftKings and FanDuel on 2/23/19. DFS Forwards to Consider 

Auston Matthews - C, TOR vs MON (FD - $8,200, DK - $7,300)

The Maple Leafs are on a three-game losing streak where they have scored two or fewer goals in each of those games. This is a major difference compared to where we've seen them at earlier parts this season and simply put, they need to be winning games, since both the Bruins and Lightning are pulling away within the division. Matthews comes in with eight points in his last six games, while posting 20 shots in that span. The Maple Leafs are -180 favorites at home and with this game having an over-under sitting at six, we should see some scoring going both ways.

James van Riemsdyk - W, PHI vs PIT (FD - $5,400, DK - $4,800)

JVR is very affordable on both sites tonight but it should be noted that this game is being played outdoors in Philadelphia, so there is always a potential for a weird game due to ice conditions. Even with that said, the Penguins have been so bad on defense lately, they should be fine to attack in any format. The Penguins have allowed three or more goals in four straight games and come in with the fifth worst Corsi Against sitting at 59.86. This means they are giving up far too many shot opportunities every game, which should give the Flyers a solid floor of points to build on, along with plenty of upside as the over-under is set at 6.5 goals.

 

DFS Defenders to Consider 

Damon Severson - D, NJ @ NYR (FD - $4,400, DK - $4,600)

Severson and the Devils are playing their cross-town rivals the Rangers on Saturday which is on the early slate of games. He is not expensive in any way and is currently playing up on the top power-play unit, which should present a nice stack today. The Rangers come in allowing the fourth most high-danger scoring chances per game, along with having the sixth worst Corsi Against in the league. With a smaller early slate of games, GPPs might be the play over cash games, so look to use Severson in a stack.

Roman Josi - D, NSH vs COL (FD - $6,800, DK - $6,200)

Josi is on an absolute warpath right now and has posted 13 points in his last nine games, along with 28 shots in that span, making him one of the most consistent options at defense tonight. He is up against the Avalanche tonight which has the Predators coming in as -185 home favorites, as the Avs are on the second night of a back to back. He is viable for cash games and GPPs tonight due to his safe floor along with multi-point upside.

 

DFS Goalies to Consider

James Reimer - G, FLA vs LA (FD - $7,700, DK - $7,800)

Reimer should be getting the start tonight and is a home favorite coming in at -175 against the lowly Kings. He has won three of his last four starts and allowed just two goals in two of those three wins. The Kings are the worst team in the league and come in with the second-fewest goals scored this season, which is why we have an over-under set at only 5.5, so the scoring should be limited across the board, specifically, the Kings side of things.
