FanDuel, DraftKings NHL DFS Lineup Picks (1/5/19): Daily Fantasy Hockey

Tom Vecchio's top NHL DFS lineup picks on FanDuel, DraftKings for 1/5/19. Expert daily fantasy hockey advice, sleepers & player recommendations.

Back to the normal flow of things for the NHL and have a seven-game slate tonight, which should provide enough options for both cash games and GPPS.

Vegas lines are big when it comes to picking games to target, and that's a good place to start for goalies. When it comes to skaters, goal totals is another main place to start. Usually, 5.5 goals are average, so targets game at six, and can look for goalies in games with a total at five.

In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy hockey lineup picks for DraftKings and FanDuel on 1/5/19. The lineup picks will range from some of the elite players to mid-priced options and value plays. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to hit me up on Twitter @DFS_Tom. Let's get to it, shall we?

DFS Forwards to Consider

Connor McDavid - C, EDM @ LA (FD - $9,300, Dk - $8,000)

McDavid is on one of his classic point scorings stretches right now and he is not a player you should be passing up due to this consistency and upside. Yes, he is very expensive, but he has 12 points in his last five games, along with posting 15 shots in that span. The truth of the matter for the Oilers is this, their bottom six forwards are bad, just not good. So if the Oilers are going to be scoring goals on a given night, then McDavid will be involved, likely multiple times.

William Nylander - W, TOR vs VAN (FD - $4,800, DK - $4,300)

Nylander finally got his first goal of the season the other night, getting the proverbial monkey off his back. We have Toronto coming in as massive -250 home favorites with an over-under sitting at 6.5 goals, so we should scoring plenty of goals tonight. Nylander has been known to be a somewhat prolific goal scorer, so you should be looking to get him in your lineups at what is a very reasonable price. Second forward line and second power-play duties for him should give him plenty of upside tonight.

DFS Defenders to Consider

Torey Krug - D, BOS vs BUF (FD - $6,300, DK - $5,600)

The Bruins are looking very strong right now, especially since Patrice Bergeron has come back into the lineup, so you should be looking to get exposure to their first power-play unit, where Krug is the defensemen. He comes in with four points in his last three games, but only three shots and one blocked shot, which isn't amazing. For this reason, he makes more of a GPP play, you would want to stack with the first power-play unit, not for cash games.

Colton Parayko - D, STL vs NYI (FD - $4,100, DK - $4,300)

Love the savings that Parayko brings along with consistent production he brings, which makes him cash game viable tonight. He is averaging over two shots per game while averaging just shy of two blocked shots per game, which is awesome production from a player under $5K on both sites. This game has an over-under set at 5.5, so not expecting a massive upside, but a solid floor of points and savings is tough to pass up.

DFS Goalies to Consider

Roberto Luongo - G, FLA vs CLS (FD - $7,800, DK - $7,200)

Luongo is very cheap on DraftKings tonight but is a GPPoption only due to his recent inconsistency, which oddly enough, shows a bit of upside. He only has two wins in his last five starts but has come away with 29 saves or more in three of those starts. That volume of saves is very solid and if he is able to limit the goals and come away with the win as a -125 home favorite, we are looking at massive point per dollar value here. He is up against the Blue Jackets who are on the second night of a back to back.
