FanDuel, DraftKings NHL DFS Lineup Picks (1/14/20): Daily Fantasy Hockey Advice

Chris Wassel's top NHL DFS lineup picks on FanDuel, DraftKings for 1/14/20. Expert daily fantasy hockey advice, sleepers & player recommendations.

Tuesday features a big eleven-game main slate with a spotlight on games like New Jersey and Toronto, Nashville and Edmonton, plus even Pittsburgh and Minnesota among others.

Remember, when looking around for plays, an over/under of 6 dictates offense, but an over/under of 5 or sometimes 5.5 tilts towards the goalies. There are several games at 6.5, as that has become the new norm in hockey now.

In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy hockey lineup picks for DraftKings and FanDuel on 1/14/20. The lineup picks will range from some of the elite players to mid-priced options and value plays. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to hit me up on Twitter @ChrisWasselDFS. Let's get to it, shall we?

DFS Forwards to Consider

Auston Matthews - C, TOR vs NJD (FD - $8,600, DK - $7,700)

Toronto played one wild game on Sunday night in Florida that saw a dozen goals in all. The last time they played New Jersey, nine goals were scored. Matthews was held pointless in that game but had four scoring chances and three higher quality ones to boot. Matthews has a very wild home split where he averages nearly 4.5 shots per game and has 24 goals in 22 games! That is pure insanity. He also plays nearly two more minutes a game at home as well.

Max Pacioretty - W, VGK vs BUF (FD - $7,600, DK - $7,600)

The winger gets shots on net to the tune of over five per contest. Buffalo has one of the league's worst penalty kill at 75% and Pacioretty has five goals and nine points in his previous nine games. On the season, Pacioretty has five power-play goals and 14 points from the man advantage. This game could be one of those that surprise offense wise. Yes. Pacioretty's price has risen but when one fires shots at the rate of Alex Ovechkin, one should expect a price bump.

Also, Consider:

  • Nathan MacKinnon and Connor McDavid are solid plays as always on Tuesday night. Patrice Bergeron against Columbus is intriguing as well.
  • Nikita Kucherov and Jonathan Huberdeau are nice options on Tuesday from the wing position. Patrick Kane may be almost a bit chalky.

DFS Defenders to Consider

Erik Karlsson - D, SJS vs ARI (FD - $6,700, DK - $5,200)

This is more of a DraftKings play only but Karlsson quietly has seven points in his last nine games while averaging nearly three shots a night. Finally, the chances and shots are trending upward for the defenseman who has had a season he would like to forget. Again, it is that DraftKings price that sticks out a good bit. If one is not feeling so apt to play him, even on DraftKings, then consider a player like Connor Murphy who is below $4,000 on FanDuel and just $4,700 on DraftKings. His 2.5+ shots and 2.5+ blocks per game is a big floor and is going up against the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday night.

PK Subban - D, NJD vs TOR (FD - $3,900, DK - $4,100)

Subban has seen his floor improve dramatically since John Hynes was fired. Maybe it was the system or maybe it was just luck evening out. Whatever it has been, Subban has been playing better of late. The weekend games were a bit tough offensively but again he is averaging just over three shots a game and nearly two blocks of late. If that continues, the chances and points will start to come again. Toronto is missing two of their best defensemen and expects to play a more wide-open game which should suit Subban well on Tuesday night.

  • Simply Viktor Hedman is an excellent option against the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night.
  • Cale Makar or Ryan Graves may be played against Dallas and Graves will be much cheaper in all formats.

DFS Goalie to Consider

Andrei Vasilevskiy - G, TAM vs LAK  (FD - $9,200, DK - $8,400)

The idea is to think the highest goalie win probability. It will be Tampa Bay against a Los Angeles team that allows well over three goals a game of late on the road. Tampa Bay still allows a ton of shots on the net (nearly 32 per 60). That number has come down to 29.2 per 60 over Vasilevskiy's last ten starts. He is 9-0-1 in that span and stopped his last 48 shots faced while posting back to back shutouts.

Also, Consider:

  • The other good GPP choice on Tuesday night may be Frederik Andersen who could use a bounce-back game immensely. Watch for Thomas Greiss against Detroit and even Elvis Merzlikins against the Boston Bruins.
