FanDuel, DraftKings NHL DFS Lineup Picks (1/12/19): Daily Fantasy Hockey

Tom Vecchio's top NHL DFS lineup picks on FanDuel, DraftKings for 1/12/19. Expert daily fantasy hockey advice, sleepers & player recommendations.

Back to the normal flow of things for the NHL and have a 10-game slate tonight, which should provide enough options for both cash games and GPPS.

Vegas lines are big when it comes to picking games to target, and that's a good place to start for goalies. When it comes to skaters, goal totals is another main place to start. Usually, 5.5 goals are average, so targets game at six, and can look for goalies in games with a total at five.

In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy hockey lineup picks for DraftKings and FanDuel on 1/12/19. The lineup picks will range from some of the elite players to mid-priced options and value plays. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to hit me up on Twitter @DFS_Tom. Let's get to it, shall we?

DFS Forwards to Consider

Logan Couture - C, SJ vs OTT (FD - $7,200, DK - $6,200)

Couture and the Sharks come in as insanely massive -310 home favorites against the Senators, which is a rarely seen money line. We have an over-under sitting at 6.5 goals here, which means we should be seeing plenty of scoring, but most of it should be coming from the Sharks side of things. The Senators are dead last in the league when it comes to Corsi Against, which means they are giving up an insane amount of shots each and every game. This provides a massive floor of points for the Sharks skaters, making them great for cash games, but the inflated goal total also makes them viable for tournaments. Couture is on the second forward line and the second power-play which should put him in a great spot tonight to score.

Brandon Pirri - W, VGK @ CHI (FD - $3,500, DK - $6,200)

It should be noted that Pirri is significantly cheaper on FanDuel tonight and should be played over there. I should also be noted that Pirri has been sent down and up from the minors several times this season and specifically this week, so not a guarantee he will be in the lineup tonight. BUT, with all that said, when he does play, he has been amazing with six points in his last four games, on the first power-play unit and the second forward line. If he is in fact in the lineup tonight, he should be an auto-lock on FanDuel since he is up against the Blackhawks who are giving up 13.75 High Danger Scoring Chances per 60 minutes, which is last in the league.

DFS Defenders to Consider

Darnell Nurse - D, EDM vs ARI (FD - $4,700, DK - $5,200)

Nurse is on the first power-play unit for the Oilers and comes in at a very modest price tonight, which gets you some cheap exposure to Connor McDavid. The Oilers are modest -145 favorites at home and up against a weaker Coyotes team who are sixth worst in the league in giving up High Danger Scoring Chances. This nice since it plays into the hands of the Oilers and specifically McDavid, which is where the real value comes from. Nurse isn't amazing on his own, but getting the upside through the power-play makes him worth the roster spot tonight.

Ryan McDonagh - D, TB @ BUF (FD - $4,600, DK - $4,500)

McDonagh is more of a GPP option tonight and is on the second power-play unit for the Lightning, who are simply the best offensive team in the league. They are facing off against the Sabres in a game where the over-under is set at 6.5, which means we should be in for plenty of goals, which is always the case with Tampa Bay. He has no points in his last three games, so you really need to use him in a stack, since he is just too thin for cash games tonight.

DFS Goalies to Consider

Ben Bishop - G, DAL vs STL (FD - $8,500, DK - $8,000)

Bishop and the Stars come in as -150 home favorites in one of the few games on the slate where the over-under is set at 5.5 goals. Hopefully, this means there will be fewer goals here, giving him a chance at consistency and to come away with the win. He has come away with the win in four of his last six starts while posting 30 saves or more in four of those games. Nice bit of extra points from the saves, along with coming away with the much-needed win.
