FanDuel Daily Fantasy Basketball Advice - NBA DFS Lineup Picks for 1/1/16

By Keith Allison [CC-BY-SA-2.0 (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0)], via Wikimedia Commons

A week ago, Christmas around here was about 70 degrees. This week, the Sixers are starting to win games because of the fantastic play of Ish Smith. Next week, I'm assuming hell will freeze over. Oh, Happy New Year!

In this article, I will be providing you with my NBA DFS picks for DraftKings daily leagues on 1/1/16. The DFS lineup picks will range from some of the elite players, to mid-priced options, and value plays.

Without wasting anymore time, let's get down to it!

FanDuel DFS Guards

Ishmael Smith (at LAL, $5,800)

Ish Smith is playing exactly as predicted right now. He was great on the New Orleans Pelicans team when he got the minutes he needed to excel, and the Philadelphia 76ers are riding him to a couple of wins. In his last two games, he has over 30 minutes in each, which also led to over 40 fantasy points in each. Tonight, he faces off against the Los Angeles Lakers, who are one of the worst defensive teams in the entire league, and this game will most likely stay close. Both teams are fairly uptempo, and Ish Smith could realistically go over 50 fantasy points tonight. There is absolutely no reason to avoid him.

Hollis Thompson (at LAL, $3,500)

Unfortunately, Hollis Thompson was injured in the Sacramento Kings game the last time he took the court. He only played 13 minutes, and he never returned to action. He did have 14.4 fantasy points, which is extremely solid considering the amount of time he spent on the court. If he continues to play as well as he was in the beginning of the game, 30 plus fantasy points was not out of the question. He is more often than not a 20 plus fantasy point kind of player. His price tag is very low, and the Los Angeles Lakers are the second worst team in the league against the guard positions (behind the Sacramento Kings). Thompson will save some salary space, and he should at least return value.

FanDuel DFS Forwards

Pau Gasol (vs NYK, $8,700)

Prior to his poor performance against the Indiana Pacers in his last game (13 points, 11 rebounds, 29.7 fantasy points), Pau Gasol has been fantastic with over 40 fantasy points in three straight games. He has been playing 35 plus minutes per game with Joakim Noah out of the Bulls' lineup, and that should continue tonight. The New York Knicks are not great against the center position, and the Bulls should be able to score rather easily. Gasol is a little bit expensive, but with guard options like Ish Smith and Hollis Thompson, it should be fairly easy to slide him into your lineup. Do not hesitate to spend up on the better of the two brothers tonight.

Chandler Parsons (at MIA, $5,200)

Chandler Parsons did not look good in his last game against the Golden State Warriors, but everyone gets at least one mess up game. Aside from that game, he has been consistently hitting value. In fact, he is one of the most consistent small forward options on the board night in and night out. Granted, he does have the ability to drop around 10 fantasy points on any given night, but he is more likely to score 30 plus. The Miami Heat are not great defensively, and Parsons will take advantage of that. If Deron Williams sits out again, Parsons gets even better. If he does not sit out again, Parsons is still a reliable option.

FanDuel DFS Centers

Nikola Vucevic (at WAS, $8,200)

Nikola Vucevic only looked decent in his last game against the Brooklyn Nets. He posted 33.3 fantasy points, which is a lot lower than expected. In five of his prior six games, Vucevic posted over 40 fantasy points, and he even approached 50 on two occasions. The Washington Wizards are an uptempo team, and Vucevic should be able to out-rebound and score easily on Marcin Gortat. Gortat is a great offensive player, and I'm sure Vucevic will have a difficult defending him, but he isn't elite on defense. Considering the matchup and Vucevic's recent success, assuming 40 plus fantasy points out of the Orlando Magic center tonight is about accurate.

Titanic Disappointment - Will Ryan Tannehill Help Tennessee?

In the midst of being shutout by the Denver Broncos on Sunday, Tennesse Titans coach Mike Vrabel made a move that many casual NFL fans had been expecting for the past few weeks: he decided to give Ryan Tannehill a shot at quarterback instead of Marcus Mariota. While Tannehill wasn't noticeably better on Sunday, throwing... Read More

Warning Signs: Todd Gurley, Brandin Cooks, Robert Woods, Jared Goff

This is going to be a special edition of Warning Signs. Usually, we take a look at players from different teams who have disappointed thus far. This week, I am going to focus on a single team full of players to worry about. It is not good to have a team of big stars where... Read More

FAAB Bidding - Week 7 Waiver Wire Targets

Assisting our famous waiver wire pickups list, and our weekly waiver wire columns by position, this column focuses on suggested waiver wire bidding percentages for fantasy football owners in leagues using a Free Agent Acquisition Budget (FAAB). Fantasy Football Risers and Fallers - Week 7

Whether due to their own play, the play of others, or injuries, players' stock increases and decreases on a weekly basis. Perhaps more than any other, the NFL is a league that experiences ups and downs at a rapid pace. With only 16 games, there’s little room for error and seemingly endless opportunities for improvement.... Read More

We Must Overreact Immediately! Week 6 Outliers

In Week 6, several players exploded in fantasy lineups. There were a few receivers that were above the rest of the pack in Week 6, such as Stefon Diggs, Terry McLaurin, Chris Godwin and Tyreek Hill, but there shouldn't be any surprises there as those guys should have been in fantasy lineups. At the quarterback... Read More

Deeper League Free Agent Pickups for Week 7

The bye week difficulties continue this week with Carolina, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Tampa Bay all getting their rest in Week 7. It should be noted, however, that just because a player is currently in their bye week, doesn't mean you should avoid them on the waiver wire. In fact, this is often the easiest way... Read More

Week 7 Waiver Wire Pickups & Adds

All of a sudden, the Chargers look like one of the worst teams in football and the Jets look like a playoff contender. Maybe things won't shake out that way in the end but it goes to show how quickly things change in the "Not For Long" NFL. For that reason, we advise looking at... Read More

The Cut List - Players on the Chopping Block (Week 7)

This is your weekly list of players to drop. I will do my best to limit this list to injured players and players you might consider holding. If you roster pure handcuffs or backups, obviously you can let them go at any time. The players on this list will, ideally, be guys that aren't clearly... Read More

Running Back Waiver Wire Pickups - Week 7

Some of you have been rewarded for your meticulous roster planning by receiving excellent production from your running backs. Unfortunately, many of you have been equally prepared when making roster decisions, but have been undermined by injuries, inconsistent usage, or underwhelming performances. If that applies to you, then those unwanted outcomes have forced you to... Read More

Wide Receiver Waiver Wire Pickups - Week 7

We weren't really surprised by the top-scoring fantasy wide receivers from Week 6. Out of the top-20 receivers, only Jamison Crowder, Auden Tate and Jaron Brown were less than 50% owned. Jaron Brown (0% owned) was only targeted five times but he scored two touchdowns off of those five targets. Auden Tate (23% owned) hauled... Read More

Tight End Waiver Wire Pickups and Streamers – Week 7

Another week, another four teams on bye in the NFL. Fantasy football players are going to have to make due this week without Carolina’s Greg Olsen, Tampa Bay’s O.J. Howard and Pittsburgh’s Vance McDonald, not to mention Seattle’s Will Dissly, who was injured this past Sunday. It could be a worse week for fantasy players... Read More

Quarterback Waiver Wire Pickups and Streamers - Week 7

It was another big week at the quarterback position, as five quarterbacks topped 30 points and 12 scored more than 20 heading into Sunday Night Football. Waiver Wire Express - Week 7 Lightning Round

The Jets are back! OK, maybe not back because they were never here but at least there's some actual hope and fantasy value to be had from a previously winless team. The tight end landscape has changed drastically again, as Hunter Henry returns right at 60% ownership, while breakout second-year Seahawk Will Dissly's season appears... Read More
